THE DARKEST FLAME by Christina Lee ~ FMR REVIEW

SYNOPSIS

From the author of There You Stand, a new male/male romance about an errant motorcycle recruit and the captivating bartender who sends his wheels spinning down an all too tempting road.

Vaughn O’Keefe has been part owner of the Hog’s Den for years. Privy to plenty of Disciples of the Road business, he’s never been more ruffled as when a new recruit named “Smoke” walks through the door. Something about the man gets his blood pumping, but he knows to keep his preferences under wraps around the club.

“Smoke” Callahan has done a couple of rehab stints and is finally clean, thanks to help from the Disciples. He’s on the right path and isn’t about to get sidetracked, no matter how much the guy who manages the bar gets beneath his skin. Besides, his last relationship with a man left him scared, alone, and with a nightmare of an addiction.

When the Hog’s Den becomes shorthanded, and Smoke is ordered to help out the one man he can’t have, his longing for the bartender reaches blistering proportions. Vaughn figures a night together should be enough to satisfy their mutual attraction. But neither banks on just how scorching hot it might be.

As Smoke’s past unravels and the one person he hopes never to lay eyes on again messes with all he holds sacred, it’s time to involve the Disciples. Problem is, he’ll have to risk his membership, his heart, and his own hide to keep everyone he cares about safe.

This is an MC book; and there were parts that included the club. But The Darkest Flame was more about individuals rather than a whole cast of characters.
I really liked that unique approach on this genre. Gave me a chance to get to know the main players and get a grip on who they are.
For those who don't have any experience with the M/M genre. This is a great place to start.
Vaughn thinks he isn't anyone special. Just a guy working hard to get ahead in the world. Tossing funny stories and alcohol at those who visit his bar.
He's kept everything important about himself quiet. Always felt if there isn't a reason to rock the boat, why do it.
Vaughn is sweet, unassuming, tenderhearted and sensitive and he takes care of his aging father. He's relatively happy and likes his quiet life.
Until Smoke gets "volunteered" to give Vaughn a hand working the bar. Then Vaughn's quiet little world gets shook up good.

Smoke has a painful past. One that's full of secrets that if brought out into the light of day, could endanger his new, safe world. And take away the future that he sees he could have.
He's not really concerned about it, until he locks eyes with a sexy bartender. Then everything changes.

As Smoke and Vaughn try to navigate the beginnings of something that could be really special. Bad, dangerous things from Smoke's past begin to infringe on the things that could be.
Putting both men's lives in peril.

This book is written in different POV's. Normally I wouldn't have a problem with that, but there were a lot of places where the author confused me by not staying with that person and that POV. I found myself having to backtrack to the beginning of the chapter several times so I could make sense of what I was reading and who's POV it was.

However, don't let that stop you from reading this book. This is a touching story about two men who got blindsided by something that they never really expected to happen to them.
The Darkest Flame is definitely worth the read.

This story was filled with passion, intense chemistry, and drama. This story is really not focused on the MC aspect, but rather the relationship building between Vaughn and Smoke. There is a lot of MC presence in the story, just not like in most MC stories. Vaughn and Smoke both play for both teams. However, both have a preference for men. The moment they meet, the connection is made and they spend a lot of time fighting it. Neither one of them are “out” with the club, and they don’t want to ruin those relationships. But when they are thrown together by circumstance, the attraction can no longer be ignored and they ignite the pages. Smoke is dealing with stuff from his past and that spills over on to Vaughn. Vaughn has his hands full with his bar and his dad. Relationships are tested and choices have to be made. These characters are both strong men who are realizing that nothing is worth forfeiting their happiness.
