DRUNK DIAL by Penelope Ward • SNEAK PEEK

(A standalone)
Release date: 8/21/2017

A Contemporary Romance Novel

New York Times, USA Today, and #1 Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author
Penelope Ward

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new, sexy standalone novel. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Look up Landon Roderick, that boy from childhood whom I’d never been able to forget—even though he so easily forgot about me—and call him. Then again, anything sounds like a good idea when you’ve had a little too much wine before bed, right? It was supposed to be just a quick, meaningless, prank call. Instead, I went off on him—unloading thirteen years of pent-up emotions. I didn’t think he’d call me back. I certainly could never have anticipated the weeks of sexually tense phone conversations that followed as I got to know the man he’d become. Turned out, Landon had never really forgotten me, either. That special connection we had was still there. I opened up to him, but there were also things about me he didn’t know. And he had his own secrets. Over the countless hours we talked on the phone, I wondered what would happen if we actually saw each other. One night, I did something impulsive again. Only this time, I went to the airport and booked a ticket to California. We were about to find out if one phone call could bring two lost souls together or if my drunk dial really was all just a big mistake. A complete STANDALONE.

Copyright © 2017 By Penelope Ward After that evening, I hadn’t heard back from him for a few days. Then, one night, a text came in from the same phone number I recognized as Landon’s. It was the first time he’d texted me. I looked down to find he’d sent a photo. I gasped. It was a heavily tatted man set against the backdrop of the ocean at sunset. Oh, my. It was him—a selfie. Fuck. Me. He was beautiful. I wouldn’t have even known it was Landon were it not for the blue eyes I recognized instantly. The shaggy, caramel hair I remembered from the past was now a darker shade of brown and shorter, cropped closer to his head. His arms and his chest were inked, his body so perfect that if I squinted, it almost resembled carved stone. I couldn’t stop looking at him. My eyes wanted nothing more than to explore the ridges and valleys of his stunning body. Was this a cruel joke? This was not Landon! But, it was. With my thumb and middle finger, I kept zooming in and out, examining the details of the ink across his chest and on his arms. There was really nothing sexier than a guy with perfect arms and a full sleeve tattoo. Even though his lips seemed fuller than I recalled, they still curved into a familiar grin that oozed confidence. The eyes and that smile were the only traces of the boy I remembered. I wished I could’ve leapt through the screen to smell him, touch him. “Hi, Landon,” I whispered, for a brief moment talking to the boy inside, not the man in front of me. This Landon was the polar opposite of the Ivy League yuppie image previously in my head. The only thing the man pictured might have majored in was badassery. He looked like a rockstar, a rule breaker, displaying a sense of arousing danger—someone who must have had women from all walks of life drooling over him for the sheer fact that either they couldn’t have him or shouldn’t have him. It suddenly became clear why, as he’d alluded to, a woman might have been begging him for sex. That made me wonder if he had any secret tattoos in spots I wasn’t allowed to see. God. A fire was burning inside of me, and I knew it was my crush exploding into a full-blown obsession. A self-conscious feeling came over me. If I was scared to show him a picture of myself before, now I was really hesitant. The message that went along with the photo simply read: Now show me you.

Beard in Mind (Winston Brothers book #4) by Penny Reid • BLOG TOUR

Beard in Mind, an all new standalone in the bestselling, romantic comedy Winston Brothers Series by Penny Reid, is available NOW!

BIM-cover (2)

All is fair in love and auto maintenance.
Beau Winston is the nicest, most accommodating guy in the world. Usually.
Handsome as the devil and twice as charismatic, Beau lives a charmed life as everyone’s favorite Winston Brother. But since his twin decided to leave town, and his other brother hired a stunning human-porcupine hybrid as a replacement mechanic for their auto shop, Beau Winston’s charmed life has gone to hell in a handbasket.
Shelly Sullivan is not nice and is never accommodating. Ever.
She mumbles to herself, but won’t respond when asked a question. She glares at everyone, especially babies. She won’t shake hands with or touch another person, but has no problems cuddling with a dog. And her damn parrot speaks only in curse words.
Beau wants her gone. He wants her out of his auto shop, out of Tennessee, and out of his life.
The only problem is, learning why this porcupine wears her coat of spikes opens a Pandora’s box of complexity—exquisite, tempting, heartbreaking complexity—and Beau Winston soon discovers being nice and accommodating might mean losing what matters most.

She’d taken the sofa, in her own house, and given me the bed. That didn’t make a lick of sense. I crouched next to her, threading my fingers into the silky hair at her temples. “Honey.” “Mmm.” I bent to whisper, “Shelly.” “Hmm?” “I’m going to carry you to your bed. I’ll take the sofa.” “Mmm.” I grinned at her soft noises, at the untroubled expression on her face, and how her brow—even in sleep—still looked regal and stern. Sliding my arms under her legs and shoulder, I picked her up. And, unfortunately, that woke her up. She jerked in my arms. “What are you doing?” “I’m taking you to the bed.” “Don’t do that.” “I don’t mind, I’ll take the sofa.” Our mouths were just inches apart, and hers was distracting. She squirmed. “Put me down.” Sighing unhappily, I did. I set her on her feet next to the couch. The blanket pooled at her feet and I stepped back to give her some space. It was dark, but I could see her just fine, and that meant I had to force my eyes to remain above her neck. The woman was wearing two pathetic scraps of fabric as pajamas. A thin little tank top and shorts. That’s it. I set my jaw and turned to the side, waiting for her to walk past. “Where are you?” I glanced at her and realized she couldn’t see at all. She didn’t have a hand out, but the way her eyes were moving about the room gave away her blindness. “I’m here.” I didn’t touch her, because if I did, I wouldn’t want to stop. Shelly turned her head in my direction and took a deep breath. Still she didn’t reach for me. I didn’t know the specifics of what to expect after her Friday session, but I recalled Dr. West saying something about Shelly doing self-guided ERP exercises over this week. “Can you see?” She licked her lips, her voice sandpapery. “Because I can’t see at all. It’s so dark.” “I can see.” Unbidden, my eyes dropped to her body, to the swell of her breasts, the panel of bare stomach, the curve of her hips. Pinpricks of heat raised over my skin and I curled my hands into fists. She shuffled forward and I caught her before she bumped into me, setting my hands gently at her waist. “Let me take you to your room.” My voice was rough, for obvious reasons. Saying nothing, she brought her hand to my forearm, her body gently colliding with mine. And then her hand on my arm slid up my bicep to my shoulder. “Shelly.” I was running out of breath. “I like this.” “What?” “Touching you.” Oh fuck. I held still and endured her hands moving over my body, down the front of my shirt, stopping at the hem, then pushing it up. “Take this off.” I did. I pulled the T-shirt over my head and let it drop to the floor. We stood there, facing each other in the dark, not touching. Despite the session on Friday and the progress that had been made, I realized she wasn’t quite there yet. Dr. West was right, Friday was just a step, the first step. Shelly wasn’t able to initiate contact. Not yet. Her hands balled into fists and she swayed forward, her breath struggling little puffs. If anything was going to happen tonight, I had to initiate it. I had to be the one to touch first. God, how I wanted her. How I wanted her above me, beneath me, surrounding me. But how could I? “I know why I hesitate,” her voice was breathless, “but why do you hesitate?” “Lots of reasons.” “Give me one.” “I don’t want to you use you.” “I wish you would.” That pulled a laugh from me, just a small relief from the mounting tension. My eyes moved over her body, an undeniable impulse to devour the sight of her, her legs, stomach, chest, then up her neck to her lips. “You asked me on Saturday if sex was a big deal for me, or if it was you. The answer is both.” She held very still, and I got the sense she was holding her breath, straining to listen. “You are a big deal to me. I don’t want a fling. I don’t want a flirtation. I want promises.” “What can I promise you?” That you’ll love me. That I’ll be your priority. She shifted her weight from foot to foot. A spike of anxiety that she might leave me like this had me acting without forethought. I lifted my hands to her waist again and immediately, her fingertips skimmed over skin of my lower stomach in response, making my muscles tense in hot anticipation. She grew more assertive as she caressed my sides, abdomen, ribs, chest, shoulders, and then back down. Shelly stepped closer, a hint of thrilling contact between her breasts and my torso, and all the words and worries melted from my mind, died on my tongue, suffocated by the feel of her body, and the possibility of this moment. Her finger hooked in the waistband of my jeans. “Take these off.” Her hand turned, her fingers and palm cupping me over my zipper. Instinctively, I pressed myself into her touch even as I grabbed her wrist. “Beau, I promise—” She didn’t get to speak, because I kissed her, hard and wild, unbuttoning and unzipping my fly with one hand and bringing her palm inside my boxers with the other.

I've said this once and I will say it again, Penny Reid, has such an amazing storytelling ability. And when she writes, she has this certain sophistication to her words that I just love.

The story was amazing! I thought it was interesting. It brought in all the Winston brothers and Ashley into the story. The book has some quick wit to it but also this book did touch on a more serious issue. I thought the author did a good job on incorporating that into the story. And the author threw a few wrenches into the story that made things more interesting.

Shelly is an interesting character. She's got some stuff going on that had me really intrigued on what happened and how the book was going to play out. By the end of the story, I think Shelly stole the spotlight. I thought she was a fantastically, flawed character. But I did love Beau too! She was so sweet and patient with Shelly. It just melted my heart.

Overall, this book was amazing! The writing was great, the story was amazing. It did get a little long for me but certainly not a deal breaker. I love reading about the Winston family and hearing about them find their forevers!

Tequila, you failed me.

You left me in a terrible haze, and I can’t find my god damn wallet.

Or my left shoe.

How the hell does one lose their shoe?

I have no f*cking clue.

All I know is that my night started out with one thing in mind…to have a little fun.

The problem with that? I can’t remember a damn thing, except one.

Morgan’s soft and needy moans. It’s a sound I will never forget, just thinking about it makes my heart race and my pulse quicken. And I want to hear it over and over again…I craved it.

But Morgan’s a mystery. The harder I try the more she resists. There’s one thing she doesn’t know about me though…I’m not one to give up.

I’ll play her game, I’ll let her think she’s won. But in the end, I will have her.

Because all I need is Just One Chance to prove she’s meant for me…

This story was incredible! I nearly peed myself laughing at some of the pranks these guys pull on each other. The connection between Xavier and Morgan is intense. The storyline was fantastic and it flowed effortlessly. I was hooked from the start and quickly found myself engrossed in their story. This is just another shining example of why CA Harms is one of my automatic one-click authors! I love her work and never even have to read the blurb because I know it will blow me away!

Oh tequila....such a fitting name for the series. It plays a big part in the way this story goes.

Morgan is on the straight and narrow. She is serious about her schooling and doing whatever it takes so that she can oneday help her parents with her brother. Don't mistake him for a burden, she loves her brother fiercely. Then she meets Xavier on her one night of letting go. Sure he doesn't remember it the next day, but it was worth it. One night. That's all she wanted. But then he keeps showing up. What does it take to make him believe her?

I really enjoyed this story. Funny and sexy, and unbelievable even, it was a great story to lose my weekend to. Some of the antics that were performed were over the top and totally something I could see happening in a real frat house. You can't help but laugh at it all and hope that Xavier can win over Morgan in the mean time.

Before I could say anything, Xavier hooked me around the waist and stepped closer to Pete. “Hi, you must be Pete,” he said, thrusting his hand out toward the dumbfounded man. “I’m Xavier, Morgan’s boyfriend, and we’re here to meet Marcus.”

“Um, y-y-yeah.” I felt awful at Pete’s obvious stuttering. “L-l- let me show you both to your table.”

“You are awful.” I slapped at his arm as he slid his hand lower, cupping my ass. “What are you gonna do next, pee on my leg?”

I walked away from him but I could hear his laughter echoing behind me. Apparently Xavier Stone was on some type of high horse. As I approached the table I had a feeling that my best friend had some involvement in this fiasco.

Holy Freaking Smoke, I absolutely loved loved loved this book. I loved every single one in this series!

Finally he has met a women who totally blows his mind who he wants to spend time with in bed and out of bed. He wants the type of relationship his parents has, he wants a soul mate and he knows without a doubt that Bren is this women for him, but she is just gone.

So imagine his surprise when his new patient is none other than the women he has been obsessed with and not just any patient this patient believes that she might be pregnant, with his child.
Bren is totally embarrassed and can't believe that her OBGYN is none other than Mason Brentley, a guy she thought she would never see again. What must she do now.
Mason comes up with a deal that before they know if she is pregnant that they should get to know each other better. So that if she is pregnant and they want to be together, they would know its because they want each other and not just because she is pregnant.

Brent finds herself in a predicament. She doesn't want a relationship ending up like her mother heartbroken and seeming to not be able to move on after her father died, but Mason is sweet, caring, loving and man is he freaking sexy. So will she give him a chance or will her own insecurities keep her from being happy.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS STORY. I loved Mason, Doctor, Hot, Sexy, Sweet and so adorable.

I loved that Mason knew that he wanted Bren and that he did everything he could to make her see how he felt, but that he also gave her the chance to get to know him and fall in love with him.

Sweet Romantic funny and so HOT!!!

Review by: Leeann

Mason was supposed to be Bren’s one night stand.. But she soon learns life does not always go to plan!
Their chemistry is once in a life time and neither of them can deny it. Circumstances lead them back together after that night and only one of them is prepared to embrace it.

There are some moments in this book that have you stopping and thinking ‘no way would that happen in real life’ but that is the beauty of fiction. It is not real life it is all made up!
A couple of incidents had me laughing out loud at some very inappropriate moments and some other moments where I really wanted to shake some sense into Bren. She has this great guy who would quite literally do anything for her and, when it suits her she pushes him as far away as she can.

This story is a bit of a role reversal which is really quite refreshing. The hero (Mason) is the one looking for the HEA. He truly believes everyone has a soul mate. The heroin (Bren) in this story is the one not having a bar of it. In her mind it is no way, no how.. Mason really has his work cut out for him.
Bren isn’t a bad person, she just thinks she has her life planned out and knows what she wants. She has vulnerabilities and insecurities and Mason quickly realises he is going to have break down every one of her barriers to get past them.

The writing is good and shows what a vivid imagination this author has. The story has an overall good flow once you get past the fact that it is a work of fiction and it is highly entertaining. The support characters are well placed and at times entertaining. I didn’t love this book but I did enjoy it as a quick, fast paced, sexy romantic read.

Great for a holiday beach read.

Release Day August 15, 2017

You know when you’re looking at someone and you can’t help but smile at how oblivious they are to their own charm? That’s what was happening to me, and it was making me feel…happy. Euphoric. Something indescribable. It was like we already knew each other, like we had met in a previous life. Memories that didn’t exist began exploding in my mind like fireworks. Charlotte has spent her twenties adrift, searching for a spark to jump-start her life and give her a sense of purpose. She’s had as many jobs as she’s had bad relationships, and now she’s feeling especially lost in her less-than-glamorous gig at a pie-and-fry joint in Los Angeles, where the uniforms are bad and the tips are even worse. Then she collides—literally—with Adam, an intriguing, handsome, and mysterious painter. Their serendipitous meeting on the street turns into a whirlwind one-night stand that has Charlotte feeling enchanted by Adam’s spontaneity and joy for life. There’s promise in both his words and actions, but in the harsh light of morning, Adam’s tune changes, leaving Charlotte to wonder if her notorious bad luck with men is really just her own bad judgment. Months later, a new relationship with Seth, a charming baseball player, is turning into something more meaningful, but Charlotte’s still having trouble moving past her one enthralling night with Adam. Why? When she searches for answers, she finds the situation with Adam is far more complicated than she ever imagined. Faced with the decision to write a new story with Seth or finish the one started with Adam, Charlotte embarks on a life-altering journey, one that takes her across the world and back again, bringing a lifetime’s worth of pain, joy, and wisdom.

Review by: Tatia

A chance encounter that is a bit odd, yet feels completely normal. For one night, Charlotte and Adam lived a story that felt like it really belonged to them. The next morning wasn't as amazing, but Charlotte didn't expect it to be forever. She took a chance on one night. That one night will continue to stick in her mind for months to come, even directing the way her future relationships might go.

Renee Carlino is one of those authors that I always second guess. Don't ask me why because I don't have a god reason. I love EVERY. SINGLE. WORD of her stories. I devour them so quickly that I'm kicking myself afterwards for it. This one had me laughing, swooning, crossing my fingers for it to work, and even had tears coming to my eyes. You become attached to these characters so much that you are hoping for a certain outcome, but in this story I was torn in two. I couldn't decide which outcome I wanted more. In the end, it couldn't have been more perfect. The ending came way too quickly and I was hungover, unable to move on to my next read as normal.

“You’re making love sound tragic,” I said. “No”—he shook his head—“I wouldn’t want it any other way. Tell me about us. What do we like to do?” “Paint and sail and eat and drink. Just simple things.” “Don’t forget about sex,” he said. “Yeah, lots of sex. Before the children were born we "We were practically naked every second of the day.” “I like that.” “When they got older, we’d sneak away for weekends and leave them at my mom’s.” “What are they like? Our children.” “Happy. That’s all we wished for. We put our love first and it just spilled over into them and now they’re happy.” Tears sprang from my eyes and ran down my cheeks. Isn’t that what we all hope for when it comes to our children? His tone suddenly changed. “That’s beautiful, Char- lotte.” It was like he was waking up from the dream. I didn’t want to go back to reality yet, but I knew these fantasies were just to help Adam get his mind off things. “I can imagine a long life with you,” he said. “I can imagine what a great wife you’d be." I pulled my hand out of his. “The story is about you and me.” He didn’t say anything; he just nodded and then continued to stare out the window. I bent and kissed the top of his head again, and whispered, “It’s about us. Don’t take that away from me.”

You know a book is good when you start reading and hours go by without you even knowing because you've been so wrapped up with all the words you have been reading. That's what this book did to me! The story just flowed so well, you would just keep reading and reading and nothing would faze you.

So I loved the storyline! The forbidden romance to the story was the icing on the cake! It gave the story a little extra something that I loved! And of course, this book was HOT!!! This is one of the hottest series that I've read! Both the original and this spin off. SO GOOD!

If you like your books with great characters, well written, and full of steamy hotness you must read this book! I don't think you will be disappointed!

What can I say about Walsh & Jorie’s story.. um WOW, talk about hot!
I read this book in one day because I seriously could not put it down. Ok, so there is a boatload of erotic sexy scenes in this book, but what really stands out is the storyline. It is fast paced and lust filled. Even though Walsh claims to not be a romantic, pretty much everything he does for her has romantic overtones. He is a very likeable character even though at times he has a push/pull thing going on with Jorie. He knows he wants her but he is scared of the ramifications.. Her brother being his best friend and all.

Jorie is in love with Walsh, she has been since she was a kid. She is pretty intuitive & realises very quick he wants her too.  These two have trouble recognising the line they keep saying they don’t want to cross & leap straight over it in to domesticated bliss.
Add is a sex club and public debauchery and they are as happy as two peas in a pod.
Jorie is on a journey of self discovery after a marriage breakdown and what she discovers about herself is that she loves sex. Who knew? What’s more is that she loves sex with Walsh and the more she gets the more she wants.

This couple is likeable because you can easily see how they ended up in the position they find themselves in. They are not faultless and each have flaws.
Their journey is of course highly erotic & sexy, but also full of unexpected moments and tough choices. They have some hard paths to travel to find their happy ending and at times it really didn’t look like they were going to get anywhere near their HEA.

This book is so worth the read!

Squaring my shoulders, I march into The Royale and head straight for the concierge desk. I haven’t been in this casino before. Hell, I haven’t been in hardly any of them. Sure, I’d only grown up about forty-five minutes away, but gambling and all-you-can-eat buffets held no interest to me. From Micah bragging about his best friend over the years, I knew Walsh orchestrated the purchase of the land, then pulled together financing with two other partners to build this casino. It’s one of the most popular on the strip, boasting five-star dining, old-world elegance, and superior customer service. Again, all this from Micah, but honestly… I’m so proud of Walsh, too. We may have lost touch over the years, but I’ll never forget all the ways in which he acted as a big brother to me. Ick. Okay… that’s gross. Thinking of Walsh like a brother. I scrub my mind clean of that thought and demand myself never to do that again. Rather, I’ll never forget all the ways in which Walsh provided me friendship and support in my formative years. Yes… much better. “Can I help you?” a man behind the concierge desk asks with a genuine and friendly smile. Not snooty as I would expect in a fancy hotel, and I guess that goes to the superior customer service The Royale strives for. “Yes… hi,” I say as I nervously tuck my hair behind my ears on both sides. “I need to see Mr. Brooks. How do I go about getting access to his apartment?” Micah told me some time ago that Walsh lives here. The concierge never loses his friendly smile, but a single eyebrow arches high at my temerity. “Oh, gosh,” I stammer. “That came out stalkerish. Mr. Brooks… I mean, Walsh… and I are longtime friends. He used to babysit me.” “Your name?” the man asks as he pulls up something on his computer. “Jorie Pearce.” After a moment of scanning, he looks up at me. “Your name isn’t on the approved list.” “Well, he’s not exactly expecting me.” “I’m sorry, Miss Pearce,” he says with true regret in his voice. “But our policy is strict. No one gets up to the private penthouse without their name on the list.” I lean on the desk with one elbow and lower my voice. “Just out of curiosity… are there any women on that list?” The eyebrow shoots up again. “No, wait,” I say hastily as I hold my palms toward him in a silent plea to not process my last request either mentally or on the computer. “That’s totally stalkerish, and I didn’t mean that.” “Miss Pearce,” the concierge says, now with a hint of annoyance. “Perhaps you’d like to leave a message? I can get it up to Mr. Brooks today and he can call you.” “No, I need to see him now,” I tell him firmly. “And I swear it’s not to cook a rabbit in a pot on his stove. Can you please just call up to his apartment?” “That’s not our policy—” “Look,” I snap as I lean across the desk slightly. “I’m a lifelong friend of Walsh’s. My brother is his best friend. We lost touch for a few years, but we ran into each other last night. I really need to talk to him about something that happened last night, and I’m not leaving this hotel until you call up to his apartment.” The eyebrow doesn’t arch but it does draw inward to meet its match on the other side as he considers what I just said. “I swear to you,” and here I pause to look at his name tag, “Bentley. Please just call him. He won’t be mad.” With a sigh, he relents and picks up the phone receiver, punching in a five-digit number. After a pause, he says, “Mr. Brooks… I’m very sorry to disturb you, sir, but there’s a Miss Jorie Pearce here to see you. She says she’s a longtime friend.” I watch as Bentley listens, but I can’t gauge what’s being said as his face remains blank. Finally, he says, “Very good, sir.” I take this to mean I’ll be getting an escort to the penthouse suite, but Bentley replaces the receiver and says, “I’m sorry, Miss Pearce. But Mr. Walsh told me to tell you he’s busy and can’t receive you right now.” My eyes narrow at Bentley. “I don’t believe you. Call back and let me talk to him.” “I assure you, I just talked to him and that’s what he said.” “Call him back,” I order as I point to the phone. “I can’t,” he says almost with a wail. “If I do, he’ll fire me.” Okay, that hits home. I don’t want to get anyone in trouble, so I say, “Fine. Give me just a moment.” I take a few steps away from the concierge desk and pull my iPhone out. I shoot off a quick text to Micah. What’s Walsh’s phone number? I wait a few moments, but I know Micah is awake in San Francisco at this hour. His phone is always on, and he never ignores a text from me. He responds with the number before I can even start to tap my foot with impatience, adding on, Why? I hate the lie, but I write back, Came to Vegas for the day. Thought I’d see if he could meet up for lunch. Haven’t seen him in years. Cool, he writes back. Tell him I said, “what’s up, douche?” I roll my eyes as I text back, Real mature. Love ya. Later. After I save the number to my contacts, I open a new text to Walsh. Let me up to see you or I’m going straight back to The Wicked Horse to satisfy some further curiosities I have. I hit send and then walk back to the concierge desk. I merely lean one elbow on it and watch Bentley with a silent smile. The phone rings about ten seconds after that. Bentley’s eyes fly to mine as he listens, and then says, “Yes, sir. Right away.” When he replaces the receiver, he says, “I’m to show you to the penthouse elevator.” “Thank you, Bentley,” I say brightly.
