Turbulence by Whitney G • FMR REVIEW

BLURB:

Fuck me recklessly
Kiss me harder.
Take me again and again…

He and I met under a cloud of clichés:
Boy meets girl. Boy charms girl. Boy fucks girl.
Our story was supposed to end right after the orgasms, right after we went our separate ways.

But then we saw each other again…
And neither of us could walk away.

Our rules were simple.
Our passion was scandalous.
Our hearts were supposed to be safe…

But when you find something so all-consuming—something so intoxicating and inescapable, you’ll risk everything you’ve ever had, even if you’re destined to crash and burn.

This is us.
This is our messed up love.
This is turbulence.

WOW!!! Just WOW!!! This book really surprised me! We have a hot pilot and a beautiful flight attendant while we expect to several rounds of these two joining the mile high club together we get soooo much more than that. These two characters had quite the story to tell!

I just LOVED Jake!!! He is definitely top book boyfriend material! He was sexy and mysterious and the things that would come out of his mouth....*fans self*. But there was also a sweet side to him that would come out every now and then. His past is one giant knot that slowly gets unraveled throughout the story and it's a big knot. Then there is Gillian. She was an interesting character to me. There were times I really like her and then others times I got really frustrated with her. At times she just seemed all over the place. Like Jake, she had a lot of family drama she was dealing with herself.

I thought the story was really well written. It does go back in forth from the past to the present with chapters using blog post, emails, text messages as the content in the story. It was all laid out nicely so the reader knew where they were in the story. There is a big twist towards the end that caught me totally off guard but I still don't know exactly how I feel about it. Maybe it seemed out of place? Overall, this book was really great and after taking a break I am glad to see Whitney Garcia Williams back and sharing her amazing stories with her readers!

SHE'S BAAAAAAAAAACK!! I've never been more excited for the return of an author. She blends words in such a way that no matter how slow you try to read, you still end up speeding through it, eating up every word on the page. WhitneyG is one of my all-time favorite authors. Turbulence just reminded me why. This story was so heart-wrenching at times. The emotions are real. They're a tangible band that you can feel wrapping around your heart and squeezing. When your heart isn't breaking, you're fanning yourself because all of the other words are scorchingly hot. There were kindles going up in flames with how sexy this book was.

Gillian is the baby of the family. Usually that means that she would be spoiled and get away with everything, right? Not in her case. Her family is full of geniuses. All are surgeons or have gone to MIT on a full ride. While Gillian had this chance, it's just not what she wanted. Her family lets her know every chance that they get to tell her that she's not living up to everyone else and all that they've accomplished. They're waiting for her to fail and call for them to come to her rescue. She's determined to prove them wrong. Even if that means being a reserve flight attendant for the largest airline in the world. She meets Jake along the way. He's the hottest pilot out there, and also the youngest senior captain known, being in his thirties. Before they know that they work for the same company, the one-night stand that leads to an intense affair begins. It's impossible to tell him "no" when he calls for more. She's defenseless against him. When the time for the "more" talk arrives, she realizes that maybe he isn't capable of more. He's closed off, doesn't let anyone in. That way they don't get the opportunity to let him down and break all of the promises they made him. Everyone has done it. He keeps people at a distance for his own sanity. Only, this drives Gillian insane and pushes her away in the process. The struggles they face seem to be mountains that are unclimbable.

I loved the way the story was laid out. We didn't just get one point of view. We go back and forth in between Jake and Gillian, getting little pieces of them both until the full puzzle is set before us. Things really start to pick up, secrets are brought to light, and limits pushed to the max. Whitney G takes us on a journey that you definitely need to hold on tight for. This has been my most anticipated read for some time. Not knowing when or if it was going to be released, all I could do was hope and pray that it would be soon!  It was well worth the wait. I couldn't have been more ecstatic over finally reading it. I devoured every word. One of those stories where I'm jealous of everyone that hasn't read it yet because they still get to experience it all for the first time.

Whitney G is back, and I for one am celebrating!!!  This book was fantastic! I loved Jake and Gillian both were exceptional characters who grabbed my interest from the start and never let go.

The storyline was one we've heard before but I can't think of another book where it was done this well.  It wasn't predictable or slow at any point.  It flowed smoothly and kept me on the edge of my seat. The only thing I would have wished for is a little more at the end.  It seemed to end a little too abruptly.

This book (like all Whitney G books) was one that quickly went on my best of the year list.  I'm extremely impressed with her ability to write a book that grabs hold of you so fiercely and never lets go. Well done Whitney good to have you back!

Prologue

How many times will you burn me?
Three, four, five, maybe ten—
Is it me who’s burning you?
Yes, ‘this’ needs to end.
If you walk away first, I’ll follow suit.
I’ve told you this before, and yet you never do…

The first time I flew through severe turbulence, I swore on my life I’d never fly again.

It was during a red-eye flight from Seattle to London, and three hours in, we were swept up in a sudden summer storm. The plane shook violently as the passengers screamed and prayed for their lives, and my calm assurances of “Hold on! Everyone please just hold on!” fell on deaf ears.

The pilot was young and inexperienced, his soft voice not comforting in the least, and as the glasses from the first class cabin shattered onto the floor amidst toppling luggage, I promised myself that my days in the sky were long over if we ever landed.

I broke that promise hours later, of course, but I could finally say that I’d experienced the worst of what turbulence could ever be.

Or, so I thought...

“Miss? Miss?” A passenger in first class suddenly touches my elbow as I walk down the aisle.

“Yes?”

“How much longer until we arrive in Paris?”

“Eight hours, sir.” I resist the urge to tell him that he asked me this question fifteen minutes ago. “Would you like something else to drink tonight?”

“A refill on my white wine please.”

I nod and quickly oblige, retrieving the wine from the galley’s cooler and filling his glass to the top. I’m trying to get as much done as possible so I can sit alone and address the unbearable ache in my chest.

“May I have a blanket as well?” he asks before I can step away.

I force a smile and retrieve one from the overhead bin above his seat, unwrapping it for him and placing it onto his lap. “Would you like anything else?”

“No, but—” He stops mid-sentence and raises his eyebrow. “Oh, wow, your face is really red. Why are you crying?”

“I’m not crying.” I lie. “It’s allergy season.”

“On a plane?”

“Would you like anything else from me, sir?” I feel a tear rolling down my cheeks. “If not, I’ll be sure to check on you again soon.”

He doesn’t answer me. Looking completely concerned, he pulls a handkerchief from his breast-pocket and holds it out to me.

“Whatever it is,” he says, looking me up and down. “I hope it’s not a guy. You’re much too beautiful to cry over something like that…Wait. It is a guy, isn’t it?”

I don’t respond. I simply take his handkerchief and walk away.

I head toward the back of the plane—past a cabin full of sleeping passengers, and lock myself in the lavatory. As more tears fall down my face, I pull out my phone and log into my private blog so I can reread the words I wrote months ago. So I can remember this heart-wrenching feeling of failing to listen to myself.

Review by: Gina

Jared is a crossover novel incorporating the Alluring Indulgence series and the Dead Heat Ranch series and I loved it!. I really enjoyed catching up with previous characters from both these theses and it was fun to read about new characters as well. The storyline was fun! The idea of this family reunion because It certainly would need to be a big production to get all the Walkers together!

I enjoyed the characters. Derrick was so cute!!! He was such an important part to the story. Jared was so sweet but so alpha at the same time! Couldn't ask for a better book boyfriend! I admired Hope. She was a strong female character, who suffered a few broken hearts in the past but was able to take a chance with Jared, and it paid off!

The story had some drama and angst, along with several hot and heavy scenes. I could have used a little more drama surrounding Jared and his ex-wife. There was a lot there, but I wanted more. But overall, I really enjoyed the story! I thought it was well written and flowed nicely. The point of view switches characters several times, but I didn't have a hard time following. You don't need to read other two series, this can be read as a standalone.  But I do recommend reading the other, just because they are fantastic!

4.5 Stars

This book!!  I didn't read the blurb I just dove in and boy did I dive in.  Stylo has this magical way of taking a story in a direction you never saw coming but after you've read it you just know it's the only way the story could have gone.  There was no build up in this story it took off at a run and never slowed down.

Katya is by far the best character Stylo has ever written (and that's saying a lot because she has a history of kick butt females)!  She's this perfect mix of naive and fierce.  She never does what is expected and kept me on my toes the entire book.

The only failing I found in this book is that it ended. I need more!!  Oh so much more!!  Bravo Stylo you are by far one of the most original and creative writers I one click.

I am giving this one 5 HUGE stars!!

Excerpt

It was no joke.
Liam had been waiting in the lobby for her at nine o'clock, sharp. Liam Edenhoff – “but everyone calls me Eden” – he'd introduced himself again to her before guiding her out to a taxi he'd had waiting.
She felt a little nauseous. She'd chugged down another half bottle of wine, and some crème de menthe, before heading downstairs to meet him. She'd almost talked herself out of going, but she'd made the mistake of telling her roommate Tori about the whole fiasco. Apparently, Katya owed it to women everywhere (and Tori in particular) to explore this opportunity to its fullest. She'd all but been shoved out the apartment, the door slammed and locked in her face.

“Nervous?” Liam Eden-whatever-his-name-was asked her as the cab slowed to a crawl.
“Nope,” Katya's voice sounded overly loud.
“Liar. Tonight is gonna be an interesting night, angel cake.”
“Stop calling me that.”
“What's your last name?”
“None of your business.”
“Okay then – when the gang bang starts, I'll tell them to call you Katya X.”
She couldn't stop the blush from happening that time. Liam burst out laughing, then soothed the sting by grabbing her hand.
Even when they got out of the cab, he didn't let go of her. Normally, she would've been uncomfortable with a stranger assuming such a familiarity with her, but this time, she was thankful for it. She held onto him tightly as they walked down a crowded street. Then they turned into an alley, and his gang bang joke didn't seem so funny. He led her to a plain door, above which a simple, small, neon sign spelled out “The Garden”. Outside were several small groups of people, chatting and smoking. Some of them called out greetings to him, all of them using his nickname, but a large and scary looking bouncer addressed him very properly.
“Hey, Mr. Edenhoff, wasn't expecting you in tonight. Any problems?”
“Nope, just bringing a friend to show her the place, let her see what I do for a living.”
All the blood was quickly rushing from Katya's limbs, pooling somewhere in her stomach. None of this was a joke. He really did own the place, that much was obvious.
As Liam led her through the door, though, Katya actually felt a surge of confidence. She was still nervous, still more than a little scared, but she was okay with it. Liam seemed like a nice guy, he wasn't going to take her into some dark room and insert foreign objects into her orifices. She could leave whenever she wanted to, whenever it got too uncomfortable. Everything was fine, and for once, she was doing something exciting. She'd een have something interesting to talk about at work the next day.
Finally.

About the Author:
stylo.jpg

Crazy woman from a remote location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since ... forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball - I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I'm clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don't trust anyone who doesn't drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there's your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair - both a curse and a blessing - and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can't understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

Review by: Leeann

Whenever I pick up a book by S.E Hall, I know it is going to exceed my expectations.  When I started reading Unstable I realized I was gping to get way more than I bargained for.
This is a story that will pull at your heart strings. It will have you laughing out loud one minute and dabbing your eyes with a tissue the next.

Henley and Keaton have always been enimies.. Or so Henley thought. The truth is much more entertaining! She has returned home after years away only to find that everything is the same, but different. She is seeing things a whole lot clearer and learning some home truths along the way.
I loved these characters so much. They are just gorgeous together.  Perfectly matched so to speak. She is strong willed and independent, but no match for her man. He is the ultimate country boy turned alpha man who likes to look after what he considers his and, he definitely considers Henley his!

This is one of those books that you never want to put down and when you get to the end it really leaves you wanting more.  It is packed with all the feels, brilliant writing, loveable characters and a storyline that hits it out if the park. There are a couple of little twists that accentuate the story and make it more real and there is a healthy dose of romance with just the right amount of sexy. Couple that with the right balance of angst humour and you have the perfect book to get lost in for a little while.

Well worth getting your one click finger out for because S.E Hall does not disappoint.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVED IT!

5 Stars

“No, Keaton. I was bored and thought I’d come play ‘tag’ with ‘em for a little while.”
“Then you’re doing a helluva job, ‘cause they’re fixin’ to tag ya back.”
What’s he blathering about now? I turn and look…but refuse to sigh or show any sign of defeat…that some of the cows, are in fact, wandering back into the field I just shooed them out of.
Really? I seem to remember—open the gate to where the food is—they’ll go. So why they’re not cooperating now, in what has to be the first time since Noah let two of them on the Arc, has to be some weird conspiracy just to embarrass me in front of Keaton.
“Let me help you,” he says too kindly, moving to do so before I can refuse.
He uses his hat to swipe at the few remaining anarchist cows, sending them on their way. And Lord knows why, but I take a moment to peruse him…see just exactly how he turned out, physically anyway.
Hair still as black as the Stetson in his hand, jeans still as tight as he’s always played his cards to his chest. Every movement precise and purposeful, nothing wasted, just like he’s always been: good at everything.
Except recognizing value in the most valuable.
Back in the day, he’d been the boy to watch. A football star, a rodeo champ…and watch them they did—every girl in town.
