About Speed

Because BB Easton had so much fun writing her bestselling, award-winning memoir, 44 CHAPTERS ABOUT 4 MEN, she decided to give each of her four men his own steamy standalone! SPEED is the second book in the 44 Chapters spin-off series—a gritty, taboo love triangle overflowing with dark humor and tangible teen angst. It is based on a true story. After her possessive, psychopathic, rage-fueled ex, Knight, joins the Marines, sixteen-year-old BB is left trying, and failing, to pick up the pieces of her shattered heart. It isn't until she meets Harley James—an easy-going, tattooed mechanic with a face as angelic as his habits are sinful—that she learns how to live again. How to laugh again. But will she learn to love again? Over Knight’s dead body.

Exclusive Excerpt

When I woke up on my sixteenth birthday, I didn’t leap out of bed to go get my driver’s license. I wasn’t thinking about the appointment I had to buy my first car that afternoon—a car that I’d been saving for since the day I turned fifteen and was legally able to work. I didn’t give two shits about going to the mall, or opening presents, or eating a fucking piece of fucking cake. All I wanted for my birthday was to sleep through it, because whenever I was awake, so was my gnawing, soul-crushing pain. I could feel it chewing through the lining of my stomach, devouring my once bubbly personality, sucking the energy from my bones like marrow, swallowing my will to live. Being eaten alive hurt. Being awake hurt. Being asleep didn’t. I reluctantly opened my eyes and glanced over at the nightstand. The red numbers on the clock announced that I’d slept past noon again. The blueberry muffin sitting next to it with a candle shoved haphazardly in the top told me that my mom must have come in and tried to wake me up. My wide-open blinds—which were letting in an obscene amount of summer sun—let me know that she’d tried more than once. And that little white pill and glass of water on my nightstand? Well those only pissed me off. I sat up and squinted at the assorted bullshit on the table until I spotted my pack of Camel Lights. Swinging my spindly legs over the edge of the mattress, I reached past the food and water, opting for poison instead. I lit a cigarette and waited for that comforting, calming first inhalation to do its thing, but even smoking had become joyless. Just like everything else, I was going through the motions. Hand to mouth. Inhale. Exhale. Repeat. I ashed my cigarette in an empty Altoids tin on the nightstand and stared at the pill my mother had left for me—the tiny white hope that had turned out to be just another disappointment. I picked it up and inspected it. If it hadn't had the word PROZAC stamped on the side of it I would have assumed they’d just been giving me Tic Tacs. That shit did nothing. Nothing but mute the vibrant colors of my world to a dirty, dull gray. Instead of my feelings being a violent riot of bitter, angry crimsons, churning, crashing ceruleans, and blinking, cautionary yellows, my inner world was now as gray as the cloud of smoke that hung four feet above the floor and three feet below the ceiling in my bedroom. As gray as my skin, where it draped between my ribs and puddled in the hollows of my cheeks and eye sockets. As gray as the fading knight tattoo on the inside of my wedding ring finger. I threw the glorified breath mint across the room and listened to the plink, plink, plink sound it made as it bounced off the wall, onto my “desk”—which was just two filing cabinets and an old door that my mom had scrounged up at Goodwill and spray painted black—and landed in a heap of shiny army-green nylon on the floor. My chest felt as if someone had come up behind me and yanked the laces on an invisible corset. Tears stabbed at the corners of my eyes as images began flashing, unbidden, behind them. Images of a skinhead standing behind me at my locker, sliding an army-green flight jacket up my arms and over my shoulders to warm my perma-chilled skin. Images of his smile when he turned me around to admire the fit. I’d never seen him smile before. Not like that. Making him do it again soon became my reason for getting out of bed every morning. Now what reason did I have? Knight was gone. All I had left was his stupid fucking jacket.

Absinthe by Winter Renshaw • BLOG TOUR & REVIEW

IMG_3452.PNG
The name on the screen was “Absinthe.”

I knew her as the sultry voice blowing up my phone for late night chats about Proust and Hemingway interspersed between the best phone sex I never knew I could have.

We’d never met.

Until the day she walked into my office, her cherry lips wrapped around a candy apple sucker and an all too familiar voice that said, “They said you wanted to see me, Principal Hawthorne?”

Review by: Gina

I loved the journey these two characters went on! It was one that spanned several year but the time was well worth it in the end.

The author did a great job with the details. She added these little things into the story and made them fit perfectly. Their screen names, and classic novels, I can totally appreciate those things. And I loved the dating app element the author thew in to the story. It made for a fun read!

I wanted a little more sexual tension at the beginning. The author gave us this great start to the story line with the forbidden/taboo romance and I wish she would ran with it. Yes, there were moments but I just wanted a little more. Towards the end the timeline of the story jumps a little, which wasn't bad but I thought the story between the characters moved a bit slow for me.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. It was fun and had an interesting concept. I thought it was well written and I am looking forward to what this author writes next!

The last block of the day is taking for-ev-er, so I ask for a hall pass and make my way around the school, loitering at every drinking fountain and bulletin board. The teacher’s probably wondering where the hell I am, but I’m not afraid to tell him I got my period. That usually shuts them up.

Rounding the corner by the front office, I’m making a beeline for drinking fountain number six when the door swings open and out walks Kerouac.
Or rather, Principal Hawthorne.
We both stop so as not to bump into each other, though he’d be so lucky.
I saw the way he looked at me in his office this morning, the way his body responded to my voice. I knew the instant he started talking that it was him, though it took all the strength I had to ignore his chiseled jaw, dimpled chin, thick, dark hair, and hooded, honey-brown eyes.
Principals are supposed to be old with gray hair, glasses, and dad bods.
They’re not supposed to look like fucking supermodels.
Our eyes lock, and I smirk. To think, all those times I was talking to this.
This is what was on the other end. That stock photo doesn’t even hold a candle to the striking Adonis standing before me. No wonder he doesn’t want to commit. For a man like that, the world is one giant, all-you-can-eat buffet of beautiful women.
“Excuse me,” he says, stepping out of my way like a gentleman.
God, that voice. That gentle, low rasp of a voice. I about creamed my pants when he did the overhead announcements earlier. Almost had to excuse myself from class so I could finish the job in an empty bathroom stall.
It doesn’t help that all anyone can talk about lately is how fucking hot the new principal is. I overheard a group of senior girls earlier making a wager to see who could sleep with him before they went off to college. The winner was to get a thousand bucks.
Ha. Stupid girls.
If they only knew who they were dealing with.
But I’m no better than they are. I know the man that lies beyond the carefully crafted exterior, behind those dark, hooded eyes and that confident stride. The man on the inside is a million times sexier than any of them could begin to imagine.
“You’re excused.” I make my way to the fountain, press the button, and lower my mouth to the jet stream of fresh water. His stare is heavy, weighted, and I’d give anything to know what he thinks when he looks at me.
The halls are empty and quiet. It’s just the two of us.
Across the way a male teacher drones on about World War I and the Lusitania, and when I glance into the classroom, I spot Bree sitting in the front row, gnawing on the tip of her pen as her eyes wander in our direction.
I move out of her line of sight. Ford follows.
“I’d like to talk to you sometime,” he says. “About—”
I rise, turning to him. “About what? Nothing happened.”
He squints, studying me. He must think I’m planning to blackmail him, but he’d be mistaken. While his rejection stung at the time, I’m over it and I’ve got bigger fish to fry—specifically a bottom-feeder by the name of Bree.
“I tried to reach out to you after we last spoke,” he says, keeping his voice down. “I wanted to make sure you were okay. Couldn’t find you on the app.”
“I deleted it.”
His lips press, and he nods. All those long phone calls and messaging sessions this summer, and the man can’t find more than a handful of things to say to me now. He must still be in shock. I can’t say that I blame him. He’d have a hell of a lot more to lose than I would. The stakes are higher for him. I might be legal and an adult, but there isn’t a single red-blooded soul in this entire school district who’d be okay with a principal striking up a sexual relationship with one of his students.
On paper, it would seem atrocious. Scandalous. Disgusting.
But it doesn’t keep me from wishing we could’ve made it work, as insane as that is.
“You know, we’re going to be seeing a lot of each other around here, so let’s do ourselves a favor and get the fuck over what happened,” I say, arms folded as I maintain my icy demeanor. My ego may be bruised, my heart may be longing for him, but I’ll be damned if I run away with my tail tucked like some rejected schoolgirl. “If you’re going to look at me like that every time you see me—”
“I’m sorry.” He won’t stop staring. “I just … I can’t believe it’s you.”
“Believe it.” I begin to walk backwards, distancing myself from him.
He may have closed the door a few weeks ago, but I’m the one who locked it.

Havoc by Laramie Briscoe • RELEASE & REVIEW BLITZ

Title: Havoc
Series: Moonshine Task Force #3
Author: Laramie Briscoe
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: August 18, 2017

Blurb

When a marriage of convenience turns into the passion of a lifetime…

Holden “Havoc” Thompson

My job as the leader of the Moonshine Task Force is my life. I eat, breathe, and sleep it. The men under my command mean the world to me. Knowing they count on my guidance has kept my demons at bay for longer than I care to admit.

The control I have over myself is an iron fist that sometimes threatens to squeeze the life out of me. What I want more than anything is to live again – let go of the hurt smothering every bit of light I have in this darkness.

I don’t expect it to come in the form of a Moonshiner’s daughter needing my protection.

Leighton Strather

My whole life has been defined by who my family is. In the state of Alabama, we’re number one with a target on our backs. The danger and prestige isn’t for me. I don’t care about the money, and I care too much about the families we’ve ruined.

My brother and my dad are proud of it. They wear their arrest records like a badge of honor. Me? I want as far away from the lifestyle as I can get.

It’s the only reason I ask Holden to marry me. At least that's what I tell myself.

I never expect his whispered yes to cause such upheaval in my life. Even though I resist, I learn some havoc is good – and this one? It’s a whirlwind of lust, hope, and love and all I can do is let it sweep me away.

Review by: Leeann

This is a story about what started out as an unconventional union becoming a love of a lifetime.

Leighton is the “Moonshine Princess and Havoc is the head of the police Moonshine Taskforce. Nothing about their relationship is straightforward and they have pretty much done everything backwards right from the start.
Havoc aka Holden is a man that will honour his word right up until he takes his last breath. Although they were not in love when they got married, he takes his vows seriously and as far as he is concerned they are married for life. He is not at all concerned about what anyone thinks about him & his wife and he holds his head up high knowing that the woman he has married may not be what they think he deserves but she is perfect in his eyes.
Leighton is truly a victim of circumstance. She comes from a bad family and has spent her whole life planning how to escape. Even though she is married to Holden, she is waiting for the day he leaves her, because that is what everyone in her life does.

On paper these two do not match, but within the reality of the story they are perfect in every way for each other.  They are kind to each other and highly aware and in tune with each other.
I loved that they always put each other first, above everyone else, even before they fell in love. They have a huge amount of respect for each other which is not always prevalent relationships.

The other members of the Moonshine Taskforce are also present in this story and they quickly take Leighton under their wing as one of their own. She builds happy healthy relationships with everyone around her despite her background and where she comes from.
I really enjoyed this book and Laramie Briscoe has once again brought us a story full of lust, sexy, love, action and pure honesty between her characters. I absolutely adore these characters and their stories and I hope there is a lot more to come in this series!

Review by: Flavia

I loved it. This book was about Leighton and Holden 'Havoc'. We met Leighton's family in the previous books, they are moonshiners and Leighton is their daughter. But she never really felt part of their family. She was the one who did the family's books and she met Havocwhen he came to speak to her father and grandfather. Leighton was in the process of trying to get away from her family when her father found out she was stealing from his money, and was not very impressed was an understatement. Leighton got away from them and for her protection Havoc decided to be her protector. So he married her and they have been together ever since.

But for most of the time their marriage was a marriage of convenience. But what they didn't know was that they both had feelings for each other. And it was becoming more and more difficult to be sleeping in the same bed, living in the same house, being married but not being a married couple.

This story is about the leader of the moonshine team and even though both of these characters come into this relationship with issues and both have a fear of rejection, they find that they can't get away from their feelings and that maybe they both want this marriage to be more than just a marriage of convenience.
Loved this book, love these characters.

Man I want Mason's book. And then there is Ace who is going to be a handful I think. Can't wait.

BLURB:

From the New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, comes a new series about three brothers, the job that calls them, and the women who challenge them. “I hate you. I never want to see you again.” Grant Malone is not the reason I moved back to Sunnyville—at least that’s what I tell myself. Yet, those parting words I said to him back in third grade, ring in my ears every time a townsperson brings up one of the Malone boys. I thought time had healed my wounds. I was wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt when I finally saw him again. Twenty years does a lot to turn a boy into a man. One who hits all my buttons—sexy, funny, attractive, and a police officer. But Grant is off limits because he knows too much about my past. But I’m drawn to him. That damn uniform of his doesn’t hurt either. It’ll be my downfall. I know it. What’s one night of sex going to hurt . . . right? *** I’ve always loved Emmy Reeves. That’s why I’m shocked to see her all these years later. The shy girl I once knew is all grown up. Adventurous and full of life, she owns my heart now, just as much as she did back then. Convincing her of that is a whole different story. I’ll give her the one night she asks for—like that’s a hardship—but when it comes to letting her walk away after, she has another thing coming. There’s no way in hell I’m letting her go this time without a fight. ADD TO GOODREADS

COCKLOFT by KC LYNN • RELEASE & REVIEW BLITZ

Title: COCKLOFT
Author: KC Lynn
Release Date: August 18, 2017
TBR Link: Goodreads

Synopsis

Cockloft: A firefighter term used as a structural space above ceiling and below rafters, often connecting adjacent occupancies and permitting fire to spread laterally, often unseen.

Gabriel Martinez is the most arrogant and infuriating man I’ve ever met. He has a knee-weakening smirk that makes me want to kiss—no—slap it off his rude, sexy face. Judging by his ego, you’d think the hose in his pants is as big as the one on his fire truck. Not that I know anything about that nor do I want to. Nope, not at all. He’s already been forgotten like last season’s Michael Kors.

CeCe Kensington is as pretentious and spoiled as they come. The ridiculous purses she shoulders around are as big as her attitude. And don’t get me started on her mile-long legs or full, glossy lips that are meant to be wrapped around a guy’s… If she only knew the dirty things I think about doing to that sassy mouth of hers, she'd be hightailing it back to her side of town.

✿¸.•´¸✿*´¨) ¸.•*¨✿

When the beautiful boutique owner and sexy firefighter meet in the most unlikely situation, their two worlds collide, creating an explosion of misperceptions and combustible heat, trapping them in a fire they never saw coming.

Review by: Gina

Gabe is the epitome of every girls firefighter fantasy!!!

I flew through this book! It was so good, I didn't want to put it down! It had me laughing one minute and swooning the next! I loved this story. It had a opposites attract vibe that I loved. These are two characters, who on paper are complete opposite, but when they come together, all the pieces come together.

Gabe, he had the perfect mix of alpha male and sweetness that a girl just can't handle. The way he took care of the family, the way he looked after CeCe, you could not ask for a better book boyfriend. Sure, he had his moment but that just made his "real". And CeCe, she surprised me. she appears to be this rich girl, snob but there was a lot more to her than what you see on the outside and the author did a great job on letting the reader to get to know her.

Overall, I loved this book! The story was funny, sweet, sassy, and everything else in between. I could't get enough of the story or the characters. It was really well written and I am looking forward to reading more from this author!
