I was ordinary. Nice. He was extraordinary. And he wasn’t always nice.
Moody and difficult, brilliant and beautiful, Kes scared me and he protected me. He could be incredibly hurtful and incredibly thoughtful. He wasn’t perfect, but he was perfect for me. He challenged me, he took me out of my safe little box and showed me the world could be magnificent. He was everything I wasn’t.
Aimee Anderson is ten when the traveling carnival first comes to her nice little town. She doesn’t expect her world to change so completely. But meeting Kestrel Donohue puts her life on a different path.
Even though she only sees him for the two weeks of the year when he passes through her home town, his friendship is the most important of her life. As a child’s friendship grows to adult love, the choices become harder, and both Kes and Aimee realize that two weeks a year will never be enough.

BEST READ SO FAR in 2015!
Jane Harvey-Berrick gives you an amazing story, full of passionate and well rounded characters. Her writing ability is uncanny in this book, it gives you a plot with loads of texture and no fluff. She has managed to take you into a whole new world that you've never experienced before. (maybe some have) Her ability to write has literally astounded me because as far as reading goes, I found myself getting sucked into this new world created in literary form. The Traveling Man is a story about being passionate and exploring different avenues of that passion, from true love (not insta-love) to what you love to do and of course there's always twists and turns and crossroads. This is not your ordinary romance novel, it's one that will capture your heart and draw you into the story and make you forget everything except for the words formed in front of you while reading.
I feel extremely grateful to Miss Harvey-Berrick, for she has made my heart full of happiness and all sorts of different emotions. She took me away from the craziness of real life and transferred me into a whole new, unfamiliar world and lifestyle that I never understood nor appreciated as much as I do now. We learn quite a bit, I know this because I've taken many things away from reading this book because it was so well written.
It's a 5 STAR READ without question!
The title of my review basically means that this book and many of her others are more than worthy of being placed on bookshelves all over. I would love to see Jane travel up and up bc from my stand point, there's no other direction.
....and I'm more than looking forward to seeing/reading what's next! Thank You So Much Miss Jane!

Magic- the power of apparently influencing the course of events by using mysterious forces….this book was just that…MAGIC. I saw it form the moment Kes and Aimee laid eyes on each other and it didn’t stop through this entire book. I enjoy reading second chance love stories, and this book not only gave me innocent love the first time around but it dazzled me with the insane ability to ruin me the second time.
“Creating magic don’t come cheap” but Jane Harvey- Berrick did just that. She took me to a land of adventure where all my cares could be wiped away with a stroll down the midway or a ride on top the Farris wheel. Where hiding behind the Ghost Train sharing a soda on a hot summer day could lead to more possibilities than one could dream of. Watching a chance encounter turn into friendship and eventually love was just amazing to read.Kes was dark and broody and extremely loyal. He exuded the carnie lifestyle and found himself thriving on its nomadic traditions and carefree ways. Aimee was the practical lovely that wondered into his carnival and forever into his heart. Together they would form a bond so strong that time and distance could not part. “I love the boy he was. I could love the man, too. I don’t know, and that’s why I have to find out”. DIE RIGHT HERE!!! I was swooning all over at both of these two throughout this entire book. I just loved how Kes too care of her and she did the same for him.
This book was absolutely fantastic. It brought me back to a place in my childhood that was safe and whimsical. It showed me to once again to feel the magic of the carnival and all that it has to offer. “You’ve got your Ferris Wheel close to your heart”… and Aimee did. The Ferris wheel represent the ability to soar over everything and every obstacle to find that one thing in life that you can hold onto…love . I recommend this book completely!! It was a 5 star read for me for sure and I can’t wait for more!!

I’m no stranger to Jane Harvey-Berrick’s writing and yet, I can’t believe she has done it again. I was captivated from the beginning. The detail that goes into describing the carnival while being able to bring across the magical quality is just…remarkable. I was able to feel and appreciate the beauty behind a traveling carnival. I connected with the characters and their love for carnivals. The hard work and effort that happens behind the scenes. With the characters, the whole book came alive for me. It felt real.
I don't want to get into too much detail about the plots but then again, I don't think it's necessary. I don't think enough words can describe just how beautiful the story is. If I had to wrap up the book in one word: precious.

The reason I love reading so much is that it's an escape from the real world. I don't have to be mom, wife, chef, maid, etc. This story definitely takes you away and makes you feel like you're seeing and living through someone else's eyes.
Kes and Aimee met when they were kids. He called her a chicken, and as we all know, when you're a kid and someone calls you a chicken you HAVE to prove them wrong. This was the moment everything changed. A bond, a friendship of sorts was formed. Over the years, what started out as a cute, fun friendship eventually evolved in to more. But can "more" work if you only get to see each other two weeks out of the year? Kes was born and raised in the carnival world, traveling all around and seeing just about everything. He's had no schooling, but you don't need it when the carnival is the only thing you've ever known. You don't know what you're missing.
Aimee on the other hand is from an extremely strict family. You don't disagree or argue with father. You are allowed certain privileges on special days, and getting an education is of most importance.
The way that this story works was beautiful. It's definitely not a story that we see every day. It wasn't just about how two kids met, grew together and fell in love. There is heartache involved as there is with just about every good romance. People get in the way and try to ruin something good, try to manipulate and twist it into something bad. For that reason, I felt horrible for Kes and Aimee. They couldn't catch a break and just be together. This is where you have to hope that fate will step in and fix what was wronged by so many. You have to keep hope that love really can conquer all.
It wasn't all about Kes and Aimee. There were some great secondary characters that helped guide and support them both along the way, ones that I hope to learn more about in the future. They really deserve the chance to tell their story as well.
This was my first book by Jane Harvey-Garrick, and I can tell you for sure that it won't be my last. Her unique writing draws you in to the story and makes you feel like you're experiencing it all with the characters. It all makes for a wonderful story that definitely had its fair share of twists and turns that leaves you guessing and sure to come back for more.

I lived in London for over 10 years and have a love affair with New York. It's only since I have moved to the countryside, that the words have really begun to flow. I live in a small village by the ocean and walk my little dog, Pip, every day. It’s on those beachside walks that I have all my best ideas. Writing has become a way of life – and one that I love to share.
