Those were the words I lived by growing up, the words that protected me in an unsafe home. But words are only letters and eventually even they couldn’t keep his hands off me.
Hoping to leave behind the shattered life of my past, I find myself in a boring, small town, with an aunt I’ve never met and at a school I loathe.
But soon I learn, not everything in this world is as black and white as I’ve determined. Sometimes those we are so quick to judge often need a second, third or even fourth time to make a first impression.
And often, there are friendships and even love waiting just around the corner, if we are brave enough to take the first step.
Am I brave? Or will I hide behind these tattered gloves of mine forever?

After a traumatic incident at home we are introduced to Willow as she on her way to 'Sugar Tree, Virginia' a country town she'd never been to before, to live with her mother's twin sister Addington. An Aunt she didn't even know she had.
Willow didn't trust anyone, (after what she went through, who could blame her) so all she wanted to do was be invisible and just go on with life. But she had an aunt and two people who took her under their wing and didn't give up on her. They knew what to say to bring her out of her own world she's been living in and to make her feel again and to live in the real world
I didn't want to say to much in this review, as I think everyone should read this story. It's filled with terrible things happening, about building friendships about finding hope and facing your demons and about learning to trust when you didn't have that before.
If you have never read a J.L Berg book I advise you to read this one. It will have you hooked to this author who will make you cry your eyes out.

Tattered Gloves by JL BERG was sooooo amazingly written! I honestly didn't read to know what it was going to be about I was just excited to get another story by JL BERG & I was definitely wowed and hooked from page 1. Willow is a girl with a DARK past and a hard life. One that just broke me up inside and made me want to give her a big hug and show her the awesomeness in life. She gets a new start at life when her mom up and leaves her with her Aunt and she starts a new life in Sugar Tree (love the city name super cute) and it's a town I would love to live in. There she meets a boy Sam and he has a few dark shadows and walls up but their connection and bond is something fierce and I love Sam from day one. He embodies everything Willow needs to help her let go and move forward. I loved this story and all it's wonderfulness!!!
