Blurb

My life changed forever the night my husband died.

I was left with a shattered heart, a heap of bills, and our daughter, EVERLEIGH. I don’t want to rely on anyone, least of all CREW GENTRY. He’s my first love and the man who almost destroyed me, the man who has let me down every time I’ve needed him.

But when tragedy strikes a second time, Crew just might be my only hope.

My life changed forever the night my brother died.

I was left with a guilty conscience, a pile of mistakes, and little else. I take care of JULIA GENTRY, my brother’s widow and the love of my life, and their daughter. I know she doesn’t want my help, but she gets it anyway. I owe her that. When another disaster hits, I’m given the opportunity to make things right. I’m taking it. I'm willing to sacrifice it all.

Review by: LEEANN

Julia Gentry has been dealt a crap hand, she grew up with alcoholic abusive parents but managed to find her happy ending, or so she thought.
In the blink of an eye it was all ripped away from her.
The person she blames for this has managed to wedge himself in to become a permanent part of her life whether she wants it or not.

Crew Gentry lost his brother. Now he has taken on the responsibility of looking after his brothers family.  He learns that not only can
life take a turn for better or worse in the blink of an eye, he learns that when you love someone, particularly a child, you will make
whatever sacrifices are necessary for them.

This is one of those books that will rip your heart out. It will make you feel the hurt of the characters & bleed for them.
The empathy I felt for Julia and Crew at different times throughout this story was at times overwhelming.

The sign of a good writer is when they make you feel from the very beginning of the story until the very end of the journey.
Adriana Lock has certainly achieved that with this book. She doesn’t just tell a story she takes you on a journey. Sometimes it is
full of heartache and at other times full of hope and love but it is one that will be remembered for a long time. I don’t think this story will
be forgotten any time soon.

I am giving this book a very well deserved 5+ stars. If I could give it more I would.

Review by: KIM

This book is a heartbreaker.
I can't even begin to tell you all just how much I love/hate this book.
See, I've had some experience with a lot of the things that were written about in this book. I can't tell you how many times I put my kindle down and swore that I wouldn't read anymore.
Because Adriana Locke was freaking breaking my heart!
But because Sacrifice is so well written I found myself returning time and time again and before I knew it; I arrived at the end.
So, KUDOs to you Ms. Locke for tackling a subject that I know had to make your heart hurt and for writing such a touching story.
I completely fell in love with Julia and Everleigh, (I love that name BTW,). Strong women are a favorite and there isn't many I've read that are as strong as Julia.
Julia found herself in a place she never thought she'd be. A widow at a young age and a single mom. Struggling to make ends meet by working two jobs and almost always robbing peter to pay paul as the pile of bills never seemed to end.
Even though she doesn't want his help, her brother-in-law, Crew always seems to be willing to help.
Crew has always loved Julia.
The fact that he let her down a long time ago resulted in her marrying his brother. And because
he always managed to do the wrong thing, Gage was gone now. Something Crew would forever kick his own butt over.
But Julia needs help and by the Gods, Crew was going to take care of her and his niece.
My heart broke for Julia as she struggled to trust Crew. And I cried for Crew as he came to terms with the things he's done
and his struggle to make it right not only with Julia, but with himself too.
As I read this book I was touched by Crew's struggles as he tried to at last do the right things; I had this thought...
We don't always choose the battle. Sometimes the battle chooses us.
If you want to read a book that will take you to the edge of being an emotional heap, then Sacrifice is definitely a must read.

The author wrote a deep emotional story that will capture the hearts of everyone who reads this story.  Many people will be able to relate to this book on some level as I did.  Jules, Everleigh, and Crew have a very complicated start to forming their family much less to get hit with another hardship.  Guess the saying, what doesn't kill you will make you stronger is true.  Everleigh is a beautiful little girl in this story who is wise beyond her years. The other characters were an important element to this story that brought many tears to my eyes. I liked this story and thought the author dealt well with the issues in the story.  I was definitely surprised that the book kind of ended suddenly but didnt. I am rating this book 4 out of 5.

Sacrifice is an amazing story about fighting and I don't mean in the physical sense though our hero, Crew, is an actual fighter. It's so much more than that, deeper. This book is about fighting for what's right, fighting for the one thing you want in this where. It's about fighting for redemption, for love and for family and making yourself vulnerable enough to let someone else for you when you feel like you have no fight left.
This book started out slow. It took me a while to get into but once I did i couldn't put it down. The sacrifices both Julia and Crew make are beyond heartbreaking. The love between them is pure and real.
I loved the plot line and the second chance aspect of this story, however, I was not happy with the way the book ended. I felt that it was rushed and I did not get the closure I expected. The writing was brilliant and captivating but with the way the end felt rushed, I feel this book could have been so much more powerful with a little more explanation and feeling during the last chapter and epilogues. Yes I said epilogues. There are two. Which threw me as I honestly didn't see the second one until hours after finishing when I opened my kindle to start something else.
I definitely would recommend this book I give it 4 stars.

Excerpt

“She’s been missing him a lot lately.”

Julia’s voice is barely a whisper and my chest constricts. Our conversations don’t normally make it to discussing Gage unless we’re already arguing. The fact that she just brought it up shocks me and I’m not comfortable with it. I don’t know how to take it. I feel my jaw pulse with frustration and scramble to change the subject again. “Why is it so chilly in here?”

Her smile disappears and she tugs her sweatshirt nervously. “I didn’t know it was.”

“How can you possibly not know?” I start to the thermostat across the room when she clears her throat.

“The heater isn’t working right. I asked Lane to come by and look at it earlier this week.”

“And he hasn’t been here yet?” I shoot her a look and she shakes her head. “He’ll be here tonight.” I dig my cell outta my pocket.

“Crew, don’t. Please. The last time you called my landlord he was a complete jerk to me for a couple of months. I just got on good terms with him again.”

I scroll through my contacts list, looking for his name.

“Crew ...” I know her doe-eyes are pleading with me. I also know if I look up at her, I’ll be somewhat inclined to give in. So I don’t.
