A.L. Jackson somehow has a way of completely obliterating whatever expectations I have for a book of hers. The way she writes is beyond compare. The way she describes things paint the perfect picture that I can clearly envision in my head.
I thought I was ready for Lyrik's story. What I didn't expect was the way my heart would break for him and all that he's gone through. The men of Sunder have always had a bevy of women that would kill for one night with them. While it has always been great, Lyrik has had his eye set on one girl. The red-headed beauty at Charlie's bar. "Red", as he calls her, doesn't give him the time of day. She has up this front and dishes out sarcasm that usually keeps the boys at bay. Only, Lyrik isn't like most. He feels he should keep his distance, but he simply can't.
Tamar has a very hard exterior. She only lets a few select people see parts of her. She's been hidden behind her wall so long that she thought she was safe. She thought she was unbreakable. What she didn't expect was for Lyrik West to pick away at her until she broke. She reveals parts of herself that no one else knows about. He slowly becomes everything to her. Only, he's just as closed off as she is.
"And there you were, breaking up all the broken, brittle parts and making room for something different. For something better. Waking me up from the dead. Making me realize what it's like to feel again. Making me feel things I've never felt before. You were making room for you."
They both have this hard outer shell that they use as a shield. To shield themselves from getting to close to anyone, but when they find someone who is just as broken as they are, their souls seem to call out to each other.
The build-up that led up to the storm was palpable. It was as if I was standing in the middle of the storm itself. I felt the electricity building, the storm growing, and I knew that when the lightning struck, it would decimate me. Both of their stories are tragic, but Lyrik's past prevents him from allowing himself to feel, to even think "more" is possible. He helped Tamar overcome her fears and be brave. Now he just has to see that he too can be just as brave.
I cried because I was sad. I cried because I felt the gut-twisting pain that can cripple you. Last of all, I cried out of pure happiness. By the time all of Sunder has told their story, I feel like I'm going to be a complete wreck. When it comes to book boyfriends, it's hard to pick favorites for me, but these boys are making it easy. Lyrik is up high on that list with Baz. When it's all said and done, I have a feeling those first four spots will be reserved for all of the Sunder boys.

I love it when I discover a new to me author that absolutely steals my breath as I read words that were so painstakingly written. A.L Jackson has just made it to the top of my Love List!
Having never read this author before I wasn't sure what to expect. It's really good going into something new with an open heart and eye. Where Lightning Strikes took me on a journey through some really dark waters and it was A-Mazing!
This author creates magic with words. The imagery created by the simple act of typing is nothing short of mind blowing. Each scene, each action is so vividly seen there isn't anyway to not get completely sucked into this story.
At first I thought that maybe this book was going to be a bit "wordy", but as I got familiar with the style I realized that this author is nothing short of a master at manipulating words into just the right way so there's no mistaking the thought, feeling or location taking place.
Never once did I wonder what Lyrik or Tamar were feeling or thinking.
Where Lightning Strikes is a little dark, a little humorous, and a lot captivating.
This is a story of not correcting past mistakes, but of learning how to forgive yourself and figuring out how to go on. It's a story of such courage and strength and of overcoming that you won't be able to help the small smile that will cross your face as Tamar conquers her fears and Lyrik learns how living again feels.
This book was OMG AMAZING!

This story was incredible. So full of emotion. The characters are so deep, complex, and well developed. I fell in love instantly with both Tamar and Lyrick. I loved the storyline and the way the characters interacted. There were several plot twists that kept me on the edge of my seat. Tamar has such a brutal past. Lyrick is determined to be the one to bring her out on the other side. Lyrick is no stranger to heartbreak himself. Both of their stories are so emotional that I cried several times for both of them. The author did an amazing job with conveying all of that emotion and pent up frustration. These two have an incredible connection and their chemistry if off the charts. You will definitely need a spare pair of panties. These two have left their mark on my heart. I am excited to see who is next!

For one night, I wanted it. I wanted her secrets. I wanted to sink my fingers in and take for myself. She was the exact kind of contradiction I craved.
The push and pull.
But this time the pull was too great to ignore.
I traced my thumbs along the delicate slope of her neck. Dragged them across the soft, soft skin. Her pulse was racing with a violent beat. I forced her to look at me while my entire body ran hot.
“Tell me what you want, Red.” It slipped out in a rough murmur.
In the distance, thunder rolled. Those blue eyes flashed. Flashed with courage and fear.
Something about it made me shake.
Almost defiantly, she lifted her chin, and she reached up with her small hands and grasped me around the wrists.
“I want you to kiss me.”
Leave it to Red to ask for the thing I didn’t want to give. Memories cut a path of panic through my consciousness. Reminding me of what I’d done. Of why I could never get too close.
Of where my loyalty truly lay.
Clenching my jaw, I gripped her tighter. My heart was giving its all to reject this. Screaming at me to wise up and to do it fast. To turn my back and walk away. No doubt, my feet had officially crossed into the forbidden zone. Out of bounds.
Red was trying to take me places I didn’t want to go.
On the inside, I struggled like a goddamned madman. Torn between lashing out like I’d done the last time she’d been tempting me with the need to sink inside her, to discover the countless secrets she had lying underneath, and gathering her up and letting her in on all of mine.
I was at an all-out war with my instincts. The f*cked-up thing was I didn’t even know what those were anymore.
Not when it came to her.
Wavering, I rocked forward in indecision then rocked back. Getting closer to those full red lips with each pass.
Her attention flitted over my face. They jumped from my eyes to my mouth and back again. She fisted my suit jacket.
“What do you want?” she demanded, turning the question on me. Her voice was a brazen, needy mix of the siren who had no issue with putting me in my place and the soft vulnerability that kept seeping through.
My tongue darted out and swept across my bottom lip.
Dying for a taste.
“F*ck it.”
Figured she was going to kill me, anyway.
