No child should ever have to go through what Amy & her sibling have… And Clive is going to make damn sure he puts a stop to it.
Clive has a past that his own twin brother doesn’t even know about. Because of this he has deemed himself unworthy of love or happiness.
Then he meets beautiful, broken Amy. She turns his world upside down. He doesn’t know how to deal with it.
Amy is fierce, independent & loyal. She will go to the ends of the earth for those she loves. But she also deems herself unworthy of love
and happiness.
The truth is these are 2 of the most deserving characters I have ever read about. They have both. In different ways been to hell and back but they have
come out on the other side.
For this couple, their path is not easy, they have a lot of issues to get through to get their happy ending.
Nicole De La Cruz has brought this beautifully broken couple to life in a way that makes you feel empathy, feel their joys and sorrows and makes you want to
cheer for them to get the life they deserve.
The way each of these characters grow from the people they are at the beginning of the book is different for them both, but each of their journeys are just as powerful
as the other. the grow and evolve and come out the other side stronger & more resilient than they had ever been before.
The topic of child abuse is covered in this book & this may be hard for some people to read about, but I have to say, Nicole De La Cruz has written this story in a tasteful way that
Keeps the subject matter front and centre for a large part of the book but not in a way that is overwhelming to the reader.
If you can look past that there is a love story playing out that is beautifully captivating. It will show that things are not always black and white and that sometimes, no matter how
overwhelmed or scared you may be, some things in life are just worth taking a chance on because you just never know which path that chance is going to take you down and if
you don’t hold your breath & jump right in you may never experience the greatest joys of your life.
If you like stories about taking chances and risking it all, then this book is one you definitely want to once click and take a chance on. I absolutely adored Amy & Clive and I am
so glad I got the chance to read their story.
Nicole De La Cruz id definitely an author to keep an eye on and I look forward to reading whatever she decides to publish next!!
Needing a taste of nicotine, I go to reach for my cigarettes only to come up empty. I realize that I must have left them at what’s his name’s apartment. I check my purse again; maybe I stashed away one for just in case.
“Need a cigarette?”
I jump at the sound and look up to see Clive leaning against the wall in the parking lot. He’s wearing his normal black tight jeans, leather jacket, and his grey beanie he seems to never take off. He has all of his facial piercings in today, making it easier to see that it’s not Kyle. Even though I would never confuse the two: Clive’s eyes seem almost older, like he’s already lived a long hard life. I find it weird when your best friend’s husband has a twin brother, but it’s even weirder when you’re attracted to that brother.
“Thanks,” I reach out to grab the cigarette from his hand. I place it between my teeth, about to take his lighter, but he takes a step toward me. He’s so close that I can feel his body heat through my very thin, short dress. I really need him to step back before I make another mistake.
“Amy, you need to suck.” I look up at his face, which is only inches from mine. His blue eyes are almost clear and his pierced eyebrow has me mesmerized. I realize I have stopped breathing. I don’t even know how long we have been standing here. I look down at his hands, which are holding up a lighter in front of my cigarette. Shit. I inhale, letting the smoke fill my lungs and instantly feeling my stress go away. I don’t like the way I act when Clive is around. Even when I first met him (over a year ago) he had this strange effect on me. Like my body was drawn to him, but I knew it was wrong.
“Walk of shame?” I see him look me up and down, his eyes hovering on my ass. I feel my whole body get warm and start to tingle. What the fuck is wrong with me? I make men nervous, not the other way around.
“Nah, I like wearing skimpy clothes and stilettos when its 40 degrees outside.” I roll my eyes, acting like he has no effect on me whatsoever.
“I can think of other things you like to do.”
I feel my whole face heat up. I can’t believe he really just said that. “Fuck off. Too bad you’ll never find out again.”
He lets out a chuckle as he leans against the building again. “Can you ever be nice?” He asks.
