Make a deal with the devil and you might get what you want, but will it be what you need? Jennifer Sylvester wants one thing, and that one thing is NOT to be Tennessee’s reigning Banana Cake Queen. Ever the perpetual good girl and obedient daughter, Jennifer is buckling under the weight of her social media celebrity, her mother’s ambitions, and her father’s puritanical mandates. Jennifer is officially desperate. And desperate times call for Cletus Winston. Cletus Winston is a puzzle wrapped in a mystery covered in conundrum sauce, and now he’s in a pickle. Despite being convinced of his own omniscience, extortion by the exalted Banana Cake Queen of Green Valley has taken him completely by surprise. So… what’s a maniacal mastermind to do? Likely, the last thing you expect. ‘Beard Science’ is the third book in the Winston Brothers series, is a full-length romantic comedy novel, and can be read as a standalone.

Oh, Cletus how do I love thee...

I am slowly falling in love with all the Winston Brothers and Cletus is my current crush! Actually, I was excited for Cletus's story since the last book. I just love all the Cletus-isms. He just had me laughing out loud! But Cletus is a very complex man so it was great to see that side of him. It just added another element to the story. Jennifer, as a love interest, kind of surprised me. At first I was a little skeptical about her but then she grew on me and I could totally see these two hooking up.

Penny Reid has this amazing ability to create a fun but complex, dramatic story that just captures you from the first page. All the way to the end I was just in awe with the story and the author. The story was really well written with an amazing storyline and even more amazing characters. This book is a must read and if you haven't read any of the Winston Brothers, they are all a must read!

CLE-TUS WINSTON is now one of my favorite male characters ever!! For reals that man is as back hills, red neck, pick up truck driving and all around weird mountain man as the stereotype pegs. I mean he is a walking cliche and I LOVE him all the same. Penny is a genius at making me fall in love with her leads...EVERY TIME. I had not read the other two books prior to this one and really had no need to. CLETUS stands alone. He's as amazing as a lightning bug fluttering on a hot summer night, and as maddening as a blizzard in winter. Bring a sweet young Jennifer Sylvester into his realm and watch  his head spin almost clear off his neck!!

Jennifer & Cletus are so unlikely that watching them develop throughout this book was pure magic. My back hills mountain man met his match with the banana cake queen!! She needs his backbone to learn to stand tall and he needs her gentle spirit to help soften him up. Add in all the wacky Winston clan and is book was sooooo swoon worthy and just plain Southern madness all wrapped up.

I just loved this book so hard that I may, or may not, have gone back and read all the books associated with the Winston clan!!! Yes, I had too. I had to know how they all came to be. How each one contributed to the weirdness of the compound and really when exactly Cletus showed up into the fold. I just Love is laid back demeanor and over all matter of fact personality. I love how Jen just fit right in perfectly next to him. All prim and proper and underlyingly just as backwards as he is! 100% recommend this book, loved the whole Winston clan and recommend reading pretty much everything Penny Reid has her hand in because its GOLD!!

LOVED this book!  The character development was phenomenal.  Both Cletus and Jennifer came off in previous books as these kind of forgettable back group characters but, really they were these amazing complex characters.

Cletus and Jennifer were complete opposites yet absolutely perfect for each other.  Their story flowed so smoothly and kept me completely engaged from start to finish.

I loved Cletus's growth and throughout this book and his complex mind.  I feel like we haven't seen the last of him and his many plans for all the folks in his small town.

I was so excited to read Cletus story and to see it's Jennifer Sullivan OMG!!! I love how their friendship builds to romance and it's in so much detail and layers than is to Penny's style of writing! Warning this is a long book but once you dive in you never want it to end and you find yourself wrapped up and falling in love with them! I love the innocence and depth that Jennifer has to her and Cletus opens her up and together they see things on each other no one else gets to see. Their chemistry and bond are undeniable and I loved seeing it bloom.  I found myself loving Penny's style of writing and how she weaves everything  together effortlessly!

I read this as a stand alone and I truly wish I started with book 1 but you can read it as a stand alone and love it for what it is....greatness!!!

4 Stars for Beard Science by the amazing and talented Penny Reid !!!!

About Penny Reid

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing). By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.
