 BLURB

One life-changing summer.
One boy.
The boy.
The boy who offered me safe touches and heart-stopping smiles - smiles he shared with his son.
We filled our days with porch-step kisses,
filled our ears with laughter,
filled our hearts with love.
Deep, soul-aching, desperate love.
But love is misleading.
It’s an invisible, fleeting moment.
Somewhere between false adoration and pure hatred comes an emotion, a vulnerable need, a single desire.
It lives within the ones who miss it, who crave it,
who know better than to expect it.
Love is relentless.
Even when that love turns to hate, turns to loathing,
turns to pain.
Love should heal you.
But it can also break you.
Believe me, I know…
Because I'm Becca Owens - a broken girl…
…And he's Josh Warden - the boy who broke me.

Jay McLean has many talents as a writer, but the one that always stands out to me is her ability to draw real emotions out of her characters.
She makes you feel what they are feeling and it’s like you are almost experiencing what they are experiencing.
This is no different for Coast. Becca and Josh have been to hell and back throughout their young lives and they just can’t seem to catch a break.
Coast picks up where Kick Push left off & it is just as emotional & real as it was when we first met Josh & Becca.

The development of these characters is gradual and obvious and much needed. From the beginning of this book you see they go from sort of immature & self-involved to patient, caring, endearing, loving human beings.
You know they have always loved each other & always will love each other, but they learn to do it better.
They have a wonderful support cast. Josh’s mum has really come through for him & he would have struggled without her. Becca’s dad Martin has stepped up to the father role beautifully &
given Becca something she never knew she was missing and of course there Is Becca’s grandmother Chaz. What a beautiful soul she is.

Although there are some sad moments there is also lots of humour thrown in for good measure. I love Tommy’s jokes  & his overall disposition.
I think it would be impossible to be sad all of the time with him around. He is like an old soul who knows exactly how to heal someone who is so broken they think they will never recover.

This is one of those books where it is really hard to find fault & I honestly couldn’t find any. Jay McLean has brought her characters full circle & proven she is adept at writing anything she puts her mind to.
You can see she has put her heart and soul into this book & it shines through beautifully through her words, her characters & her overall storytelling. If you want a book that makes you feel everything,
will keep you hanging till the very last word & leave you feeling satisfied with the story as a whole and not just the ending then you most certainly want to one click & get yourself a copy of Coast.

Reading a book series by Jay McLean is like catching up with an old friend. It's like no time had passed and you can immediately pick up where you left off. We pick up in Coast where we left off in Kick Push.
Becca and Josh are just as I remembered them. While events happened and they are different people now in ways, they still have the same dynamic. The same feelings, whether they can admit it or not.
Becca; I always knew she was strong, but she's proving even more so now. The fierceness and strength that she exudes and the strides that she makes so early on in the story has me tearing up out of happiness and excitement for her.
Josh is just as ridiculous and amazing as I remember. If he's not saying or doing something to make me laugh, he's doing it and making me swoon even harder for him. He and Tommy separately can still your heart. Put them together and your for sure a goner. There is no luck for you.
This book revolves around the future for them, what it holds whether they're together or not, you'll have to read and find out. Grams is just as big a part of this story as she was in Kick Push. She had me tearing up just as much as the rest of them. I don't know that I've ever been teary eyed as much as I was while reading Coast. It wasn't all it of sadness, rather most of it was due to happiness.
The whole story was more than I anticipated. I wouldn't have changed a single minute of it. Every laugh, every tear, every gasp upon a new revelation, a new experience, was all with it. You have to read it. Reading the first words is the kick off. You just have to push through the rest of the experience and coast until you reach the end. I loved all of the growth we get to see within all of them. There are just not adequate enough words to truly describe how I feel. You'll know why I say that after you read it.
