Synopsis
This book is about That Girl…
The girl who leaves behind her past, including her name; runs away from home and vows to never let another identity claim her again. Broken dreams, an abusive step-dad and ugly memories from her childhood are the only shattered remnants that have the ability to haunt her.
With no money, an endless blank slate laying ahead of her and no hopes for the future, she sets out to survive at minimum wage jobs, moving from town to town, changing her name with each move, and never allowing glimpses of her past to threaten her empty future.
Average in every way, from her looks to her personality and even her style, there is not much to remember about her. When she abandons one town for another, she leaves behind her fake identity in the search of the next one, while leaving people asking themselves, “I wonder what ever became of that girl.”
This was her reality until Lincoln Wilks.
The number one defensive football player in Fort Collins who finally names That Girl.

I need more than 5 stars for this one!!
Oh my god.... HJ Bellus has outdone herself with That Girl!!
This is a story about a girl who has suffered unimaginable horrors in her young life. She has decided enough is enough sets out to change her life.
She eventually meets Lincoln who Not only has a heart of gold but loves her beyond what words can describe. He would literally lay down his life for her!
Along her journey she meets a lot of people but she never really feels at peace until she meets Lincoln. Then everything changes.
Despite everything she has been through she is innocent and naive at the way of the world. She has and underlying sense of humor. The more time she spends with Lincoln the more she relaxes and her sense of humor really starts to develop and shine.
She is proof that no matter how many times life knocks you down, you have the choice to get back up and keep fighting for you place in the world.
Name any emotion and it is in this book. You can't help but feel the emotional struggles as she goes through them. HJ Bellus has a way of writing so that it is like you are standing there watching it all unfold in front of you as if it is a movie.
There are a few twists and turns and one or two moments you really won't see coming...
I can't say too much with out giving away spoilers or sounding like I'm gushing!
If you have read any other books by HJ Bellus you will be familiar with her style and you will absolutely love this book. If you are not familiar with HJ Bellus' s other books, this would be a great introduction to her unique style of story telling.
If you haven't already got yourself a copy of That Girl, what are you waiting for. Go get yourself a copy you won't be disappointed! !
P.s I haven't referred to her by name in this review as she changes her name a lot.. you will understand when you read the book!!

When I sit down to read a book, I get butterflies in my stomach, because I get excited by the mystery of how a each book is going to make me feel without even knowing the journey I am going to be taken on. That feeling is always gone after the first few chapters once I get to grips with the storyline. UNTIL THIS BOOK! I had butterflies in my stomach and goosebumps all over my skin from the very first page, until the very end. H.J Bellus has a writing style that I just connect with. I can feel the passion she pours from her heart and soul into the words of her story, every single emotion was brought out of me, I laughed, I cried, I swooned, I hurt, I healed.......yep.....you get it.
This is a journey of a girl who has been dealt the worst hand of cards, but doesn't let that stop her from believing in a better life. A girl who knows she deserves better than the life she has had, a girl who is constantly fighting her fears just to live each day, a girl who can be free to be anyone she wants to be.
“If I can live the rest of my life alone and safe, that will be enough. My safety and learning to live easy with my scars will always be enough.”
The chance encounter between this beautiful girl who is so full of fear and the gorgeous football player that is Lincoln Wilks is enough to set sparks bursting out the back of my kindle. I loved the way they first met, because it is so 'real', and I was constantly rooting for her, wanting to give her a pep talk on how to embrace her inner goddess!!!!! Lincoln Wilks is THE REAL DEAL. He loves with everything he is, he is passionate, he is caring, he makes her life so much better and is just such a beautiful person.
“Oakley Ann, knock it off. I'll haul your ass to the truck right now if you don't want to be here. We'll order Chinese and eat in your room. Your choice.”I giggle at the mention of Ann. Lincoln gave me a middle name the other night. He'd asked if I had one, and I lied and said I didn't. He was mystified and said it wasn't fair, because he wouldn't have a good name to holler me when he was pissed.”
I do not want to spoil this story for anyone. I am not giving anything away because it really is a book everyone deserves to experience individually. The only few things I will say, I love the friendships, I want to shank a few people, I WILL NEVER LOOK AT PIZZA THE SAME WAY, I will never take what I have for granted and I will never judge ANYONE!
H.J Bellus, a massive congratulations to you on this beautiful story. I loved every single word, sentence, page and chapter. Your story had packet up its shit and has moved very comfortably into my heart!
Readers, YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK! LIKE RIGHT THE HELL NOW!!!!!!!!!

4.5 stars
That Girl is a sweet, realistic story of an abused girl who has trust issues. She is shy, reserved, and scared, rightfully so. He is a sweet, respectful, loving individual who just want, well, her. Being that I have known highly abused people, I must say that it is realistic, even if fast past some areas.. There are points that I feel sorry for that girl, and I understand what he is going through trying to get her to realize he won’t hurt her. She trusts almost no one.
This book is not for the weak at heart. It’s bitter sweet. It makes you wonder why people would do stuff like that to people. And lastly, it confirms that there are good people in the world. It will make you believe in true love. Just as an FYI, it does have an HEA. :)

This is the first book I have read by HJ Bellus. I went into this story not knowing what to expect and was utterly surprised that it got me teary eyed and gave me all the feels of a relationship between an ordinary that girl and a popular football player. It was not just another love story for me but rather a perfect example of not letting a name defined you. Who you are growing up can make or break you depending on how you want to live.
“It’s just pizza,” he replies, stepping into my open legs.
“I want pizza with you. I want lots of pizza,” I whisper back. “Pizza, then?” “Yes, pizza with you.”“Do you want to pizza me?” he asks with a huge grin on his face.“I pizza you,” I say softly, beginning to smile.
Needless to say I highly recommend this 5-star novel. It will take you to places you will least expect it.
