Author: K.C. Lynn
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: September 24, 2014
Synopsis
Faith ~
Cade Walker is like no man I’ve
ever met before. He’s cynical, brooding, mysterious and, most of all, damaged.
He’s a man who declares he’s broken, and one who detests the two very things I
live for most: God and love. Yet, I’ve still fallen completely in love with him
because I also see the good, something that no one else ever has. I see a man
who is strong, silent, honorable and beautiful. He’s a man who is now scarred
just as badly on the outside of his body as he is on the inside, all because of
me. One who endured severe torture in order to save me from what would be the
worst thing I will ever experience in my entire life. He is a man I call my
dark angel, one who will have my heart until the end of time, even if I
can never have his.
Cade ~
At fifteen years old I lost the
only person that ever mattered to me, and the day I lost my little sister in
the most vile way was the exact moment I stopped living and only existed.
That’s until ten years later, when I walked into an open field in Iraq to hear
the most incredible voice I would ever hear in my life. One that rooted me to
my spot, and ended up belonging to the most beautiful woman in the world. The
only woman to ever make me feel something again, something that I thought was
dead inside of me. And no matter how badly I wanted to keep her, I knew I
couldn’t. Not with what I have lurking inside of me. It’s something I’ve always
kept hidden. That is, until the day I unleashed it on the people who dared to
hurt her. It was the one thing that gave me the strength to save us, but it was
also the one thing that would remind me of why I could never have her.
Now two years later, the one girl I never
thought I would ever see again, the one I have spent my days and nights craving
like an addict, walks back into my life unexpectedly, giving us both the shock
of our lives. And when the time comes that she needs me again, I no longer
resist. Before I know it, I’m pulled into a life I thought I could never have,
one that scares the shit out of me but it’s one I’m realizing I want. There is
just one problem. One very big problem… She lives for the very thing I loathe,
and the one thing that killed my sister… God.

Faith’s
POV
With my vision
blurry from tears, I run toward the one place I’ve loved going to since coming here.
The bright morning sun beats down on me, but my body is plagued with too many
emotions to feel any of its warmth. They rush through my veins and crawl up my
throat, trying to suffocate me, as memories from two years ago play through my
head. Good ones, bad ones, they all hit me at once...
The unsuspecting
smile of a beautiful but dark man, who captured my attention. The evenings of
singing to him in the sunset. His hands and mouth exploring my body as I
explored his. A man whose eyes held me captive, and made me feel like the most
beautiful woman in the world, as he moved inside of me, not only claiming my
body but also claiming my heart. The same man who’s shown me the only loving touch I
would know for the next two years, and maybe the rest of my life.
Then come the ugly
memories. The ones of rough, unwanted hands that delivered not only pain to my
body, but shame to my soul. Ones that tore at my clothes, and took what was not
offered to them. The sound of a little boy’s screams, as he begged them to stop,
while he was forced to watch me be violated in the worst way.
This is what
bitches are for, boy. Fucking, not singing. We will make a man out of you yet.
A sob of agony rips
from my throat and I push myself harder and faster. The burn of my legs and
lungs still not enough to quiet the evil running through my head.
“Do you still believe in your God,
female?” he
asks, holding my cross necklace over my beaten and naked body. When I don’t
answer him, he sends another blow to my already battered face. “ANSWER
ME!”
“Yes,” I
choke out through the blood that pools in my mouth. The sounds of a little boy’s
broken sobs fill the air, and rip through my already tortured heart.
“You are a stupid, stupid woman. I will
teach you who the real God is. And before you leave this earth you will call me
Allah.”
This disgusting
person may have stolen my body and tortured my soul, but he would not take my
faith. Not ever. I stare defiantly into his malevolent dark eyes, my fear long
forgotten. “Over
my dead body.”
He responds with a
malicious smile, “So
be it, bitch.”
Spotting the
crystal blue waves in the near distance, I push myself harder as I race toward
the beautiful, deserted beach. As soon as my feet hit the sand I slow only
enough to toe off my running shoes and ankle socks before rushing into the
ice-cold ocean. Once I’m
far enough out, I dive in headfirst and let the fresh water steal my breath and
cleanse my soul.
My lungs begin to
burn so much it’s
almost unbearable, but it does the trick. The dirty and ugly memories begin to
wash away, but instead of being replaced with beautiful ones of the man who
once held my heart, it holds the one of a man who was severely tortured and
beaten... all because of me. The same man who saved my life then refused to
ever see me again. And the worst part is, I still don’t know if it’s because he blames
me, or because he can’t
bear to look at me knowing what they did to me.

Review By Heather
Resisting Temptation is the third book of
the Men of Honor series by KC Lynn. I really feel like Fighting Temptation
(book 1 –Jaxson’s story) and Sweet Temptation (book 2- Sawyer’s story) set the
stage for Cade’s story. These books
should be read in order so please if you haven’t read the first two yet make
sure you do before reading Resisting Temptation. (spoilers from the first two
books are in this review)
Once in a while I will I will post a
survival kit for when you read certain books.
Items you must have on hand on while
reading Resisting Temptation:
A box of tissues- I think I cried at every
other chapter.
Your drinks of choice- trust me even if it
is coffee you will need something.
Copious amounts of Channing Tatum photos-
Channing = Cade
An iPod that plays- Hallelujah by Jeff
Buckley and Free Falling by Tom Petty on repeat.
A stuffed cow- you will need something to
hug when you are done reading.
2 Advil and a glass of water- book hangover
Now that is out of the way, we know from
the previous books that Cade and Faith met in Iraq and some really bad stuff
went down – people got hurt, some even lost their lives but we didn’t know the
entire story and let me tell you WHAT A STORY!
I was sucked in and crying from the
prologue. What Cade has gone through in his life made me totally understand why
he was such a man of little words in the first two books. Silent and broody.
Cade is a man who believes that he is damaged to the point of no return. He
doesn’t believe in love or fate or God for that matter and that starts to
change when he stumbles across a beautiful red head with a guitar singing in a
field in Iraq.
Faith is a beautiful woman with the voice
of an angel and is immediately taken with the strong, silent and oh sexy SEAL.
Faith is a minister’s daughter in Iraq on a mission trip with her church and
she represents everything that Cade is against.
Faith slowly starts to break those walls down and the two can only deny
their attraction for one another for so long. The night before Cade and his
fellow SEALS are to leave Iraq Faith and Cade spent one night together. One
beautiful moment. They both knew in their hearts that the one night they had
together was life altering, however, the lives of Cade, Faith, Sawyer, Jaxson
and young girl named Anna were changed forever that same night and not in a good way. We know from the previous books that Faith is
captured by Iraqi insurgents and when Cade, Sawyer and Jaxson went against
orders to save her, they were captured as well.
They all endured a week of hell until Cade and his men finally broke
free saving Faith and Anna in the process.
Resisting Temptation really starts two
years after Iraq when Faith moves with her family to South Carolina to start a
church there, be closer to her cousin Kaitlyn and get a fresh start. Little does Faith know that the man she has
not stopped thinking about for two years. The man who saved her life and stole
her heart is in the same town. She had nothing but radio silence from Cade
Walker for two years and always blamed herself for him not wanting anything to
do with her. One day fate steps in and Cade and Faith run into each other and
thus their journey really begins.
Resisting Temptation is a story of
strength, hope, love, forgiveness and redemption. The underlying messages in
this story are written so subtly and eloquently and resonated me with a way no
book has before. I knew going into this that this book would have a spiritual undertone
and it was done perfectly. There were a
lot of ways that this book hit close to home for me and I felt like KC Lynn was
speaking directly to me.
There is so much feeling in this book I
cannot even begin to describe it and the sexy scenes were so hot. What I liked
though is the sexy stuff did not take away from the story at all, it enhanced
it and made me fall in love with these characters even more.
Faith was a seriously refreshing character.
In a lot of books lately the heroine has a pity party and cries poor me. That
is so not the case with Faith. She is so strong and so resilient and full of
forgiveness. Cade is very sexy and there are times that my heart just broke for
him. The contrast between the way he viewed things and the way Faith viewed
things was so well written.
I also loved that we got see where the
other characters were at. There is a
Sawyer in scene in Resisting Temptation that definitely tugged at my heart
strings. One of the things I love about
this series is the close knit friendships that have been formed throughout this
series. How they all have each other
backs and rally around each other is really fun to read.
KC Lynn did an amazing job portraying Cade
and Faith’s story. She invoked feelings
and thoughts and had me questioning some of my beliefs. I was seriously blown away by this story and
could see the growth in KC as a writer between Fighting Temptation and
Resisting Temptation.
I highly recommend this series and have to
say that Resisting Temptation is in my top 3 reads of 2014.
