Alex by Sawyer Bennett BLOG TOUR & REVIEW

Cold Fury Hockey Series

New Adult Contemporary

Released October 14, 2014

Published by LoveSwept (Random House)

Hockey star Alexander Crossman has a reputation as a cold-hearted player on and off the rink. Pushed into the sport by an alcoholic father, Alex isn’t afraid to give fans the proverbial middle finger, relishing his role as the MVP they love to hate. Management, however, isn’t so amused. Now Alex has a choice: fix his public image through community service or ride the bench. But Alex refuses to be molded into the Carolina Cold Fury poster boy . . . not even by a tempting redhead with killer curves.

As a social worker, Sutton Price is accustomed to difficult people—like Alex, who’s been assigned to help her create a drug-abuse awareness program for at-risk youth as part of the team’s effort to clean up his image. What she doesn’t expect is the arrogant smirk from his perfect lips to stir her most heated fantasies. But Sutton isn’t one to cross professional boundaries—and besides, Alex doesn’t do relationships . . . or does he? The more she sees behind Alex’s bad-boy façade, the more Sutton craves the man she uncovers.

Review By Leeann

Ok, well I have to say that this is my 2nd Sawyer Bennett book & she is fast becoming a favourite author!

This is a book about a pro hockey player, Alex who has an alcoholic abusive father & barley exists outside of hockey. He turns up to his games & does the bare minimum required to win his team the game. He is that good a player that he can get away with it. No matter how good he plays
It is never good enough for his father. After every game, his father calls and leaves abusive text messages for Alex to listen to.
Sutton is a drug and alcohol councillor that has had just as a traumatic childhood as Alex. Her father was a junkie & he used to beat her, up until she was about 8 when her mother realised what was going on & got them out of the situation. Sutton has moved on with her life, she has a loving mother, step father & younger brother, she has a job that she loves & life is good.
Sutton & Alex meet through circumstances beyond their control & have to work together to put together drug and alcohol outreach program for the local schools. From the moment they meet they both feel the attraction.
Alex comes across like he is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders, but the more time he spends with Sutton the more he starts to soften & he likes the man he is becoming. He develops an attachment to Suttons family, particularly her younger brother, although at times their closeness makes him a little bit uncomfortable because he has never had that with his own family.
Sutton falls deeply in love with Alex but she knows he has issues. She knows he has to work through them himself, she just doesn’t know how deep his issues run.
In order to have a life with Sutton, Alex needs to come to terms with his past & forgive his father and his older brother.  This is easier said than done. His scars run so deep.

This is one of those books that make you feel sad for the children they were & the childhood they had but makes you want to cheer on the adults they have become & smile at their success & feel emotional when they fall down.
I was hooked on this book from start to finish and although the ending was perfect I still wanted more. I was sad when the book finished because I would love to see where Alex & Sutton go from where the book ended!

Love, Love, Loved it!!
