The Beats in Rift

Release day ~ June 13th
Blurb:
I was invisible, until they saw me.
When circumstance forced me and the Jacob twins
to spend two weeks of the summer together,
the bond we formed would impact us all,
altering our lives.
Fate, entwining us forever.
They became my best friends, my family, my first love.
With their love came their father’s hate!
Love is powerful but also painful and destructive
when it’s torn between three people.
When my mother’s reputation and their father’s vile actions
damage that love, that friendship, it changes the dynamics of our trio
setting me on a path of love, loss and impossible decisions.
Jared the beautiful rogue, who pushed her limits,
opened her eyes and owned her heart.
Their love was powerful, everlasting… until he abandoned her.
Justin, loyal and true, picked her up when she was left fragmented.
He made a place for himself in her heart and would fight to keep it.
When both twins come in and out of Meadows life,
leaving damage and hurt in their wake
will she ever choose one or the other, or leave them both without
the beats in their heart?
Teasers:
It seemed like another summer day that fateful morning when Meadow is thrown together with the Jacob twins, Jared and Justin. The Jacob twins and Meadow actually are in the same grade and the same school but their realms are worlds apart. Justin is a jock and uber popular at school. Jared is into music and is the quintessential bad boy which makes him very popular. Meadow is one of the kids who doesn't want to be noticed - she wants to be left in peace to write her music. You see there are a few girls at school who think Meadow is a big slut like mother and they don't let her forget it.
During the summer, they forge a bond that will last a lifetime or so they think. That summer Meadow and Jared bond over music; Jared teaches Meadow how to play the guitar. When Meadow is not learning the guitar, she is learning to play ball from Justin. Meadow is sure when summer ends the Jacob twins will pretend she doesn't exist anymore but that's not the case.
The Jacob twins make Meadow their person - where they go she goes. Jared affectionately gives Meadow the name of "Beats" because her music makes him want to tap it out on the drums. Meadow affectionately gives Jared the name "Rift" because he inspires her music especially the guitar riffs. Beats and Rift start dating eventually. The night Beats is ready to make love with Rift something horrible happens and Rift leaves. Beats doesn't know where he went or if he is ever coming back.
Beats stops writing, stops playing and tries to keep going on until he comes back. What's a girl to do when she realizes the person holding your heart is never coming back? She puts on a good face and eventually she starts dating Justin - not because he looks like Jared but because she genuinely likes him as a person. Things get serious between them and she's ready to make love with him when life plays another cruel trick on her.
What's a girl to do when the person holding your heart walks back into your life as your are ready to give it to his twin brother? Can you trust him to not walk out again? What about Justin - are you ready to throw away what you have with him? How do you choose?
The Beats in Rift spans several years from early teenage to adult. There is so much more I'd love to say about the story but I don't want to spoil it for you. Ker definitely knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what is going to happen next. I really liked how their story spanned several years which allowed you to feel like you knew the characters really well. The only thing I did not like about the story is lack of insight into how Jared ends up where he is at as an adult. Otherwise the story was great and I wouldn't hesitate to read additional works written by Ker.

Author bio:
I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be through lyrics or bed time stories with my sisters. I wanted to be an actress growing up so I could live many roles but I learned early on that my mind was too active, I would want to change the script. I would watch films and think of ways they could of improved the story if they took another direction.
My mum would always have a book in her hand when I was young and passed on her love for reading, inspiring me to venture into writing my own. I tend to have a darker edge to my writing. Not all love stories are made from light, some are created in darkness but are just as powerful and worth telling too.
When I’m not lost in the world of characters I love spending time with my family. I’m a mum and that comes first in my life, but when I do get down time, I love attending music concerts with my younger sister, who shares my reading soul, we are two peas in a pod.
