FMR Reviews: Before We Fall by Courtney Cole

Title: Before We Fall (Beautifully Broken, #3)
Author: Courtney Cole
Release Date: December 3, 2013

Synopsis:

Sometimes, one dark moment is all it takes to turn your world black...

For 24-year old Dominic Kinkaide, that moment took place on the night of his high school graduation. One dark incident changed him forever. He's a hardened actor now, famous in the eyes of the world, but tortured in his own. He doesn't care about much of anything, except for losing himself in the roles that he plays.

23-year old Jacey Vincent doesn't realize how much her father's indifference has affected her. She is proof that sometimes it isn't one specific moment that wrecks a person, but rather it's an absence of moments. She's like a bird with a broken wing-strong yet fragile, as she tries to float through life, finding acceptance in the arms of random guys, one after the other... to fill the void that her father left in her.

Until she meets Dominic.

After jaded Dominic and strong-willed Jacey are thrown together, his secret and her issues create a dark and damaged energy that will soon turn their attraction to each other into an explosive storm.

Even though when the clouds have cleared and the dust has settled, both of them are almost obliterated... they've learned a priceless lesson.

Sometimes, before we fall... we fly.
Review by: Heather

This is the darkest book in the series so far and I loved every second of it! Dominic Kinkade is a hot=shot, arrogant, introverted actor who is also a voyeur of sorts. Dom has a very tragic past and does not sleep with women- he gets off on watching other people do the nasty. He hides in the shadows and takes care of business while watching.  He does have a friend with benefits but he does not sleep with her. He will tie her up and whip her but never will he fuck her.
One night at a party at his brother’s place Dom witnesses a sexual assault and steps in. He offers the girl’s friend, Jacey,  a ride home and they both get arrested.  They get sentenced to community service in a gym helping inner city kids of Hcicago and they start to form a bit of a friendship. The problem is Jacey feels something for Dom but Dom won’t allow himself to feel anything for Jacey. He cannot be fixed…..or can he?
Oh my! I just ADORE Jacey! She is such a strong character. Yes Dom can be a weakness for her at times but she tries her damnest to stand her ground and to be self-sufficient.  She wants to get to know Dom- know the real Dom the one that lies behind the darkness in his eyes. Slowly but surely Dom lets Jacey in but his refusal to reveal his past, even after she shared a bit of her also tragic past with this pushes Jacey away.  Dam is such a complex character- like an onion he has so many layers and Courtney Cole did an amazing job at peeling back those layers at the perfect moments.
The story was somewhat dark, emotional, tragic yet at the same time it was funny and gave me so many feels. The sexy times were ‘I can’t read this in public’ hot.
5 stars all the way!
