Sometimes it takes someone else to show us what we are truly capable of becoming.
Suffering from years of violent abuse, Ryan Campbell has learned how to keep people from getting too close. But when you shut yourself off, people get hurt along the way. Never caring much about others, Ryan creates a world in which he doesn’t have to feel.
When Ryan meets Candace Parker, all of his walls slowly begin to crumble. Not sure of the truth of who she is, he feels his mind is playing tricks on him. Unable to force out the thoughts that consume him, Ryan is haunted by visions that torment him every time he looks at her. He finds himself swallowed by guilt and blame, but he’s unwilling to turn his back on the one person that could possibly save him.
You’ve heard Candace’s story in Fading, now hear Ryan’s.

I literally just finished Falling by E.K. Blair and I am so sad right now! Don’t get me wrong I loved this book. I loved this entire series and I loved every single one of these characters. That’s the problem. Its over! How am I just supposed to just let this series go and move right on to the next? I feel a serious hangover coming on…
Ryan Campbell captured my heart in Fading. I couldn’t help but feel and connect with the depth of love and understanding that Ryan had for Candace. As hard as I fell for Ryan after that book, reading Falling elevated those feelings to a whole new level yet also gave greater depth and insight into Ryan as a whole. In Falling we see a whole different side to Ryan before he meets Candace and are also able to see much more of Ryan’s fun, playful side. Through Ryan we experience some really great light and funny moments.
So yes, Falling is at its core a retelling of Fading from Ryan’s point of view. We all know what happened to Candace and how it affected her and those around her, but Ryan’s story goes beyond that into some pretty serious issues that he was forced to deal with growing up and how he chose to cope with those issues into adulthood. Ryan is left with questions about the man he has become and the man that he can be.
I love when a relationship challenges, improves and helps a character to grow as an individual. I love that Ryan’s photography was fostered and he was able to have something that he loves similar to what Candace found in her dancing that is outside of their relationship. Through Candace, Ryan’s love for photography was rediscovered and a passion was reawakened giving him something just for himself, something else to explore and dedicate himself to. This sort of empowerment discovered through the evolution of a relationship is often seen with many female characters, but I was surprised and pleased to see the same for a male lead.
I love how the three stories in this series are interwoven, even though they all center on the same timeframe, they encompass all the important events for each individual character within the central span of time as well as significant events before and after. We are able to see some scenes from all three perspectives, some scenes are only important for two, and some delve deeper into the past, or the heart and mind of the main character of the story only. This book does not feel like a simple retelling or repetitive at all, it is a fresh take on the main theme as well as a narration of Ryan’s touching story. What’s more Falling is not just another book in a series, this book alone is a powerful, emotional portrayal and when read as a part of the series is magnificent.
As a single story this was a beautiful and moving love story about overcoming adversity, finding that perfect person that helps you grow and motivates you to become a better person and to reach your full potential. As the end of a wonderful series it is pure magic and absolutely perfect. I could not have imagined a more fitting epilogue and ideal ending to the series. So sad to see these characters go.
“That’s the thing about love … it’s a pretty powerful force that can show a side of you that you never knew existed. Show you that you’re capable of becoming someone you never thought you could be, and you do it for the other person because you love them, because you want to put them before you.”

“Babe, what the fuck happened in there?” I ask, when we get to my car, her whole body shaking. “Who the fuck did you see?”
She falls with her back against the side of the car and grabs on to my shirt as she’s crying, gasping for a decent intake of air.
“Jack is in there. We have to leave.”
“Who’s Jack?”
“Him! Jack is . . .” Her cries are strained when I see Jase approach, asking in shock, “Candace, what happened?”
“Jack’s inside.”
“Oh, shit!”
“Who the fuck is Jack?!” I scream, confused as fuck with what’s playing out in front of me.
“The guy that attacked her,” Jase tells me.
Everything stops.
Grabbing on to Candace’s shoulders, I demand, “Get in the car. Now.” I pull my keys out of my pocket and hand them to Jase, yelling at him, “Get her in the fucking car!”
Everything tunnels as I turn from everything good in my life and walk away.
One second. That’s all it took.
Suspended in a false reality where actions and consequences no longer exist. Where rage boils so deep inside your veins that you’d do almost anything to drain them. I’d bleed it all out for her.
Chaos. I’m in it when I slam through the doors and bark out, demanding only the way a feral animal would, “Where’s Jack?!”
When the guy to my left points him out, I come unleashed.
