The Truth About Lies (The Truth Duet, #1)

Synopsis:

Truth: From over a thousand miles away, I watched on the screen of my phone as two men murdered my wife. And I was helpless to save her.
Consumed by hate and rage, I spent four years running from my memories.
Until a shattered woman gave me a reason to stop.
Cora lived in a nightmare, but through sheer force of will, she’d turned it into something beautiful. She had a smile that could pierce the darkest soul. And with one glance, she shredded mine.
Lie: I was only there for a fresh start.
Lie: I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
Lie: There was nothing I could do to save her, either.
But that’s the thing about lies—you never know who to believe.

Two people that have been through hell. They haven't quite made it back yet. The lies that they live behind are the key to survival for these two. It's the only way to keep going. Both survivors in their own ways. But once you tell so many lies, how do you know when they become real?
Aly Martinez has weaved this magically gritty story of two people who are just as damaged. It's beautiful in the sense that you are yearning for something more for them. These two individuals that deserve it more than anyone else. They didn't deserve the life that was handed to them, but they deserve sunshine and rainbows. It's a story that will have you enraptured from the very first word. You won't be able to put down this devastatingly beautiful book with words that will crush you and then bring you back from its depths....you just have to hold on for the ride.

When I started this book, I felt a bit confused. It was like the book started and there was already so many unanswered questions. But as you kept on reading I was like 'okay, I get it'... And then boom... WTF...
What Penn went through OMG, my freaking heart just broke. And Cora seriously she is a Saint. I would have run so far you would never be able to find me or keep up. I loved the two of them together. All I wanted was for Penn to take her and her two girls and just leave and never look back. But as the story unfolded I understood why he didn't and what he was trying to do. But as usual this author kept you guessing and then boom she hit you with all the surprises at the end and then just leaves you hanging. And seriously I knew it was going to happen but still couldn't stop it from unfolding.

This book was full of drama, angst, heartbreak, and so many OMG moments that I need the next book like ASAP!!! I can't wait to see how this is going to end. All I can say is if you haven't read an Aly Martinez duet you haven't experienced all the angst you could ever need in a book. Definitely 5 flippen stars.

AUTHOR INFORMATION:

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children. Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person. She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
