Knox
Jagger. The name inspires resent in every male at Sinclair University, want in
every female, and contempt in Charlie Chase.
Charlie
can be summed up in three words: independent, independent, and independent. To
Charlie, Knox epitomizes everything that’s wrong with college males: prolific
one-night stands, drunken senseless fights, and a body that hints at
prioritizing gym time over study time.
As
an up-and-coming writer for Sinclair University’s newspaper, Charlie’s tasked
with getting to the bottom of who’s been dropping little white pills into
girls’ drinks at parties. In an ocean of All-American boys sporting polo shirts
and innocent smiles, Knox is the obvious suspect. As evidence piles up against
the bad boy of Sinclair, Charlie becomes more and more certain it isn’t Knox.
But when her drink is dosed at a party and she wakes up on Knox’s couch the
next morning, Charlie’s left with more questions than answers when it comes to
Knox Jagger.
How
can Charlie ever hope to uncover the truth behind a guy so closed off he’s
become . . .
Hard
Knox.
Charlie Chase is a strong, independent college student who
marches to the beat of her own drummer and does not care what her fellow
college students think of her. As an aspiring journalist, Charlie does whatever
she needs to do to get the story including hanging out in the frat houses,
dealing with mean girls and grabby guys .
While doing a study on college drinking, Charlie has a run in with the
college’s alleged man whore, Knox Jagger. Knox is sex on a stick and is known
for having a different one night stand every night.
When Charlie and Knox meet, Charlie is quite skeptical about
the notorious Knox and her wariness of him grows when she wakes up the next
morning on his couch after being roofied at the party. Charlie and Knox team up to find the guy or guys
that are drugging these innocent college girls. There is only one coincidence
with all of these cases and that is Knox Jagger but is anything ever what it
seems?
I have to say I loved this book from the first page and
Charlie Chase is one of the best female characters I have ever read. She is
snarky, strong and independent. Charlie
is very down to earth and a very relatable character. Knox is not your typical alpha,
though you have to read the book to find out why. He is mysterious, sexy and
perceived as a bad boy. The chemistry
between Charlie and Knox is scorching; however, will Knox’s seedy past stop
them before they ever really start?
Aside from being somewhat predictable, this book had everything
I look for in romance novels- angst, humor, relatable heroine and a hero I just
want to hug. Throw in some suspense, mystery and an array of quirky secondary
characters and you have a must read book.

Hard Knox is a new adult novel that is heavy on romance but
it also deals with the issue of date rape drugs. It is told from the
perspective of the female main character, Charlie Chase who is a journalist for
her school papers. She went to a party for research where she almost became a
victim of date rape. Following that, Charlie goes to find the culprits
responsible for dropping the pills into girls’ drinks.
I’m going to start off by saying how much I loved the main
characters and their chemistry. Charlie met Knox at a party in the beginning of
the story. They started a playful banter filled with sarcasm which was such an
enjoyable read. There wasn’t any instant love which I really appreciated.
Furthermore, their relationship took time to progress into a
friendship before any relationship actually began. Another aspect that I really
liked was there was no drama. The characters had such an honest relationship. I
also liked how there wasn’t a lot of sexual scenes. Sometimes I find that
adding too much of those scenes can take away a lot of things from the
storyline and causes a lack of plot.
However, I wished we had more time with the side characters.
We were introduced to some of the characters but we never actually got to meet
them, specifically Jake. Other than that, it wasn’t hard to figure out who the
culprit really was. It doesn’t really bother me but it would have been great if
it had been difficult.
I’ve read a ton of new adult novels over the years but never
one by Nicole Williams. I have to say that I’m now a fan and will be reading
more books by her. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a romance new
adult novel.
