To say I was apprehensive about starting His Wounded Light by Christine Brae would be an
understatement. I was thrilled with the way that The Light in the Wound ended and I definitely did not
want to see any of these characters have to deal with any more hardships. Turns out that although
the road was rough for all three characters it once again culminated in the perfect ending for this book
and this series. While The Light in The Wound was a story about discovering and navigating love the
biggest impression it left on me was its message of staying true to yourself, never compromising who
you are for someone else, and making yourself a priority. His Wounded Light was, among other things, a
continuation of Isabel’s journey of self-discovery in which she learns to find happiness and love first and foremost within herself.
Here we go again with the prologue. I was absolutely blown away for the second time by Christine
Brae’s ability to draw me in from the very first page and never let me go. This shocking first page alone
evoked a wide range of emotions in me. I felt confused and betrayed, disbelief and anger, the tiniest bit of relief and even hope as well as a very heavy dose of dread.
His Wounded Light I found to be much more emotional than the first book and I absolutely ate it up.
The highs were incredible and euphoric while the lows completely gutted me. I was brought to tears
more times than I care to admit from both the good times and the bad. There were also so many twists
in this story that it really keeps you guessing. I thought I knew for sure where things were headed.
Come to find out that I was not even close.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that the point of view was not only Isabel’s but also Alex’s and even
Jesse’s at times. I loved finally getting to see Jesse’s side of things from the first story and gaining an
understanding into his feelings and motivations. I never believed Jesse to be a bad guy at all, in fact it
almost didn’t matter to me who Isabel ended up with during certain parts of The Light in the Wound
but I was still left with questions about what he was thinking at the time and why he made the choices
that he made. I enjoyed the closure that all three characters were able to find in this story and was
overjoyed that Jesse finally gets to be happy, with or without Isa.
His Wounded Light was turbulent and heartbreaking while also healing, wonderful, and fulfilling.
Isabel’s arduous journey across the span of both of these books is empowering and magnificent.
Christine Brae has certainly impressed me with this series and with this book especially. I look forward
to reading much more from her in the future.

Christine Brae is a full time career woman who thought she could write a book about her life and then run away as far as possible from it. She never imagined that her words would touch the hearts of so many women with the same story to tell. This is her second and final book in the Light in the Wound series. Her third book is scheduled to come out in late 2014. When not listening to the voices in her head or spending late nights at the office, Christine can be seen shopping for shoes and purses, running a half marathon or spending time with her husband and three children in Chicago.

Synopsis

I have had The Light In The Wound by Christine Brae on my to be read list for months now and I am so
glad that I finally embraced the opportunity to read it. This was a wonderful story that follows Isabel
Amarra for a significant portion of her life through many life changing events and all the ups and downs
of love. It was an enlightening story about growing up, maturing, making mistakes, learning from your
errors, loving yourself, and doing what’s best for you.
The prologue; one simple page. It seized my attention, monopolized my thoughts, and enticed me to
devour this book in order to answer all the questions it conjured from the start. The prologue and its
mysterious foreshadowing was actually my favorite part. There were so many times while reading this
that I would try to anticipate how it fit into the story, when it would take place, and most importantly
who was involved. The best part is, you may think you have it all figured out, but there are several
events that throw you off the trail, make you doubt your thoughts and instincts, and completely throw
you for a loop.
I absolutely loved the growth that Isabel experiences. There is no doubt that in the beginning she is a bit
naïve, she loses herself, and she lets other people’s problems overrule her own feelings and desires. But
as she gradually begins to find herself again she gains confidence, insight, independence, and a sense
of her priorities, namely herself. Her transformation over the course of the book is impressive and
inspirational and it also serves to influence those around her who also grow, change, and improve in the
long run.
All in all, The Light In The Wound was an excellent realistic, relatable story full of both the good and the
bad, the ebb and the flow, and the back and forth of love. It was engrossing and particularly hard to put
down. With an ending that was perfectly fitting for this story I am at a loss for where we could possibly
be taken in the next installment. I look forward to experiencing the rest of the journey in His Wounded Light.
