BOOK REVIEW ~ Welcome To Sugartown by Carmen Jenner

TITLE:  Welcome to Sugartown
AUTHOR:  Carmen Jenner

RELEASE DATE:  November 3rd 2013

SYNOPSIS:

Ana Belle never wanted anything more than to hang up her apron, jump on her Vespa and ride off into the sunset, leaving Sugartown in the dust.

Elijah Cade never wanted anything more than a hot meal, a side of hot arse and a soft place to lay his head at night where he could forget about his past.

But you know what they say about wanting: you always want what you can’t have.

Nineteen year-old virgin Ana is about to discover that’s not quite true because a six foot three, hotter than hell, tattooed, Aussie sex god just rode into town. He’s had a taste of her pie and he wants more– no really, Ana bakes pies for a living, get your mind out of the gutter. She’d be willing to hand over everything tied up in a big red bow, there’s just one problem; Elijah has secrets dirtier than last week’s underwear. Secrets that won’t just break Ana’s heart, but put her life at risk, too. When those secrets come to light, their relationship is pushed to breaking point.

Add to that a psychotic nympho best friend, an overbearing father, a cuter than humanly possible kid brother, a wanton womanizing cousin, the ex from hell and more pies than you could poke a ... err ... stick ... at.

And you thought small towns were boring.

Welcome to Sugartown.

*Content Warning. Intended for a mature 18+ audience. Contains explicit sex, violence, oodles of profanity and a crap-tonne of AWKWARD.

MEGAN'S REVIEW:

Don’t let the title and the pretty cover fool you.  Sure there is some sugary goodness to this story but there is also so, so much more!  As the warning states, this book does contain explicit sex, oodles of profanity and a crap-tonne of awkward.  But it also contains a sweet romance, scary bikers and bunch of hilarious laugh out loud moments, as well as one hell of a sexy, mysterious bad boy.

This book sucked me in from the very first paragraph:

“There’s a mind-numbing restlessness that comes with living in small towns.  The gossip, the people, and the unending monotony that makes you want to poke your eyes out with a fork.”

We are first introduced to Ana who has lived her whole life in Sugartown and always dreamt of leaving.  She runs the pie shop and her dad is the mechanic across the road specialising in motorbikes.  She is a dedicated big sister to Sammy, the sweet and funny kid with a lisp that you cannot help but adore.  And her best friend Holly is one of the funniest, tell-it-like-it-is, doesn’t-know-how-to-filter characters you are ever gonna meet.

Life gets interesting when Elijah Cade rides into town.  He is sexy as hell, full of cockiness, covered in tatts and has irresistible dimples to boot.  Taking on a position at Ana’s dad’s garage he is the perfect eye candy for Ana to ogle and fantasize about.

Elijah is instantly taken by Ana too and so the flirting begins.  Payback for a practical joke has Ana and Elijah going on their first date.

“You’re gonna regret playing me, Cade.  I’m gonna eat you for breakfast.”

“Keep looking like that, baby girl, and I’ll let you eat me for dessert, too.”

What I particularly loved about this book is that even though it is Ana and Elijah’s story I fell in love with all of the characters of Sugartown.  For example, Ana’s dad the tough and scary looking biker that is really a teddy bear, with a sense of humour, at heart:

“Yes, Elijah, why not come and eat my food, drink my beer and mandhandle my daughter some more?”

“Ana, can you wrap this up?  I’m gonna head over to Dave’s to get the beer… Maybe I’ll borrow his shotgun while I’m there.”

Carmen writes in such a way that I was reluctant to finish this book and leave all these characters behind.  I feel like I know these people and now that I’ve finished I’m missing them.  Her writing style is full of charisma and so much fun…

“…as fucking crazy as a howler monkey locked in a cupboard full of crack…”

Elijah is one naughty boy with a very filthy mouth.  This is one damn sexy-hot read that will have your panties (or knickers as us Aussies like to call them) melting...

But this story also has serious and tragic elements too - parts that will leave you breathless with your heart rapidly pounding.  I honestly have no idea how Carmen managed to pack so much into one book and make it believable.  The story flows perfectly and was very hard to put down.

It is really hard to write this review without spoilers.  There is so much I want to say, so much that happens… happy, sad, torturous, devastating, potent moments… but honestly, you are best to go into this one without knowing too much.  Just know that even though this is book one in the Sugartown series, there is no cliffhanger.

This is a definite MUST-READ wild ride of a book!  FIVE FULL THROTTLE STARS FROM ME!  Add it to your TBR list NOW and mark your calendars, you don't want to miss this!
