FMR's Favorite January 2018 Favorite Reads

Each month the girls at FMR pick their favorite books they read that were released during the month. Check out the list for January.

One minute, one second, one breath, it was all for a future that was suddenly unknown.

The attraction was powerful and undeniable, neither knowing where it would lead, but both willing to go along for the ride. A bond between them developed weaving itself towards something good and right.

In the flash of a moment, one decision changed the course of everything.

Ty "Green" Burm had a family, a job he loved, and a woman he was ready to call his. With the Ravage MC at his back, he knew he could take on anyone.

Except the Red Devil's MC got to Leah first. The things they did to her ...

Unspeakable hell.

Leah Johnston is now lost, broken and torn. Once vibrant, she's drowning in fear and has lost all hope for anything in her life. And for anyone.

The pain now stands between them and even Ravage can't fix this for Green.

These two are bound by affliction and it's going to take time, patience and understanding for love to overcome the scars between them.

When ghosts of the past are unable to be shaken off, can these two find their way towards the good and right once again or will everything crumble around them leaving them both in the dust.

One thing is for sure. The men of the Ravage MC do not back down.

If anyone asks, I knew better than to flash my boobs for Mardi Gras beads.

I still don’t know why I did it.
Maybe it was the dare from my two best friends.
Maybe it was the guys on the balcony saying they’d throw Fireball shots with the beads.
Or maybe it was the quiet guy in the corner of that same balcony with piercing gray eyes, wavy dark hair, and a smile so tempting I wanted to climb up there and lick it off his face.
Maybe it was because I never thought I’d see them again.
Not that it matters. Not today.
Because the hotel I manage was finally bought—and the guy who walks in and introduces himself as my new boss is Mr. Tall, Dark, and Silent.

There are many upsides to being single.
Your new boss knowing what your boobs look like?
Not one of them.

A standalone, second chance romance between a former Air Force firefighter and the love he left behind.

My best laid plans had backfired. I'd thought by putting miles between myself and my first love that she'd be free to live whatever life she'd wanted, but when I came back from serving my country and Faith was raising her little girl alone, it was time to make new plans.

In eight years, not a single day had passed when she wasn't on my mind, and not a night went by when I didn't miss her. She was fierce and stunning and didn't need a man in her life, but when the time came--and she wanted one--the line would start behind me.

Like smoke, I'd let her slip through my fingers once, but I'd never forgive the man in the mirror if I let it happen again. She was the fire inside me that would never burn out.

I crawled into Ryan Jensen’s bed that first night by accident.

I barely knew him. I thought it was his sister’s bed—her room. It took seconds to realize my error, and I should've left...
I didn’t. I didn’t jump out. I didn’t get embarrassed.
I relaxed.
And that night, in that moment, it was the only thing I craved.

I asked to stay. He let me, and I slept.

The truth? I never wanted to leave his bed. If I could've stayed forever, I would have.
He became my sanctuary.

Because—four hours earlier—my twin sister killed herself.

UNDER THE LIGHTS

Heroes don't last long around here...

Fall in love with the sexiest girl in New Orleans?
Check.
Prepare to die for her?
Double-check.

Larissa is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen.
She's the rising star of the Pussycat Angels, the hottest burlesque show in the French Quarter.

I'll never forget the first time I saw her.
The curve of her breast outlined by sparkling rhinestones.
Slim hips wrapped in black fishnets.
Long, dark hair...

She's the Dark Angel who stole my heart.
Her body is intoxicating, our love overwhelming.

Cat eyes and blood red lips.
Sizzling fingers on white-hot skin.
I couldn't keep my hands off her...

But her fame had a dark side,
A sinister shadow lurking under the lights.

I would do anything to save her...
He would do anything to see me dead.

(A CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE. Note: This book does NOT contain graphic descriptions of rape.)

I’m the little sister of two very protective brothers.
They were my best friends, but they made my dating life difficult. I probably didn’t help it either, only picking the losers that broke my heart more times than I’d like to admit.
So I pulled the trigger two years ago and left home for a bigger and better life where I wasn’t being shadowed by all my past mistakes. I thought that I’d get out and do something with my life.
Living in the Windy City is easy, right?
Wrong.
All I got in that city was a handful of mistakes to add to the list. That is, until I was handed off to Nico. Nico, the nephew of my sleazeball boss and absolutely the last thing I was looking for. He saved me that night, and as the infatuation grew between us, so did my realization that Chicago isn’t where I belong.
So when I move back home, without the one person that I’ve grown pretty addicted to, things are rough to say the least. And yet again, my relationship abilities are put to the test when a long distance relationship becomes too much for me to handle.
I want to blame it all on someone else, but the reality is I’M JUST NOT CUT OUT FOR THIS SHIT.

This is a standalone from M. Piper. This book is part of the West Family series but does not have to be read in order.

From a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author comes an unexpected romance about trying to resist the irresistible…

As far as Wesley Porter is concerned, one night with Mackenzie isn’t nearly enough. She’s a mystery he wants to solve—if he can keep her from running for the door every time they touch. There’s obviously some serious chemistry between them, so why is she fighting it?
As one sexy hookup turns into another (and another), Wesley is determined to prove they were made for each other. But Mac has been hurt before, and she refuses to fall for this sexy, ridiculously perfect guy. In fact, she has every intention of fighting it…unless he can convince her otherwise.

*Book #2 in the "Bright Lights" CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE Duet by USA Today bestselling author Tia Louise.

When I was nineteen years old, I was faced with a choice that changed my life.
Keep the safety of what I already knew or risk losing everything with the young, hotheaded soldier who stole my heart.

I chose the wrong man, and for seventeen years, I paid in tears, blood, and shattered dreams for that decision.

Now, there’s a man in my house, holding a gun to my head on the order of my ex-husband—given from his prison cell.

That hotheaded soldier I was too afraid to choose? He’s now a six-foot-three wall of muscle who works at the country’s most premier bodyguard agency. I’ve always wanted him, but now, I’ve never needed him more.

It’s the call I’m terrified to make.
I’m sure he still hates me… Even though I’ve never stopped loving him.

The first time we met was at a party.

Your ex arrived to show off the person he'd left you for last month, and you asked me to pretend to be your date.

I was more than happy to help. You were attractive, smart and witty--and that kiss we shared? It left me wanting you for days.

The second time we met was in my office on campus where we were both surprised to discover you were the new master’s degree student in poetry that I would be working with. You promised to be professional. I did no such thing.

The late nights and intense study sessions spent alongside you majorly throw me off my game. I want you, and I fight with myself daily over this fact.

I know I'm crass, that my sexual innuendos and dirty mouth annoy you, but I live for those two bright spots of color in your cheeks. If that's the only reaction I can get out of you, I'll gladly take it.

You hate Mondays so every Monday I slip an anonymous poem into your bag and your smile gets me through the week.

I think I'm falling for you, and I know it's wrong. I know that I'm only supposed to be the adviser to your program and nothing more, but here's the thing. I think you're falling for me too.

xo, Zach

Ace is saving lives and mending hearts.......

Anthony "Ace" Bailey

I'm not a rules kinda guy

Department Policy? Kinda sucks, but I do what I have to for the job that I love.
Playing it safe? Not my thing.
Married? No big deal when I know she's unhappy and scared.

I'm one of those guys - a sniper in the military, a little bit of an adrenaline junkie, and a member of the Moonshine Task Force. I've lived through some shit.

My gut has never failed me. It's my sixth-sense. Warning me of a gunshot coming my way, of a traffic stop being potentially deadly, or the tingling in the back of my neck when I go to sleep telling me I'll be woken up by a call in the middle of the night. My gut has always kept me honest.

Like the day I walked into The Café and saw the new waitress. There was a ring on her left hand, but I didn't care. One look in her eyes told me everything I needed to know. Her marriage wasn't one made of love and respect. It was one made of fear and doubt.

It's why I ignored that ring, why I arrested her husband, and the reason I'm willing to take my time. Patience is a virtue, and with this woman, I have it in spades.

Violet Miller

Meeting Anthony Bailey changed my life. He did things that no one else has ever done for me.

Feeling safe? Never happened before.
Feeling wanted? It's been years.
Being independent? I'm learning.

It's foreign, not having someone question my every move, being able to eat what I want for dinner, and sitting out on my front porch talking to Anthony every night while we share a couple beers.

I try to tell myself he's just being nice; that he's doing his job and working within the community. The problem? The night he takes the kiss we both want, everything changes, and I can no longer deny what I feel. But it doesn't stop me from trying - and I learn quickly that Ace knows me better than anyone else ever has - including myself.

All I can do is hang on, as he takes me on the scariest journey of my life. The one that bends us until we almost break, and ends with a happily ever after I never thought I would get.

ACE includes the wedding of a beloved couple, an appearance by Re
aper, and the continuation of EVERYONE falling in love with Caleb!

I’m over this year, and I’m over relationships. I’ve learned that the only person you can count on in life is yourself. Moving forward, I’m living for me. Working toward standing on my own two feet, that’s my goal. Funny how meeting him changed my path.

It’s been years since I’ve been back in this small town of West Virginia for more than a day or two. Spending time here brings back a lot of fond memories. When I stopped by an old friend’s bar, I was expecting to grab a drink and catch up. What I didn’t expect was her.

We share an undeniable attraction, but we continue to fight it.

Until one night in Vegas changes everything.

Max Horton

They call me an outcast like it's a bad thing.

An asshole byproduct of a shitty upbringing. I don't care about anything except myself and my little sister.

I will always protect what’s mine.

With one year left on my hockey contract I'm keeping my head down and my eyes on the goal.

A collision, with her, changes my entire existence.

Allison Grant

Never fall in love with a sports star. That's what my stepfather always said. He told me athletes are complicated and moody—that the higher their paycheck, the lower their morals.

As public relations for the New York Stingers I know exactly what he means, but I can’t seem to say no to a friendship with one beautiful, damaged man.

What started out as hate turned into something else.

We tried to stay away, to keep our distance, but the pull was too strong.

Something forbidden turned into something so irresistible.

A modern day take on You've Got Mail with a twist. This laugh out loud and heartwarming romantic comedy from bestselling author Meghan Quinn will keep you on the edge of your feet as you fall in love with each and every blind date.

"Good Morning Malibu, it’s another beautiful day on the west coast! I'm Noely Clark, your host: and I'm in the market for love…”

When the publicity team of the new local restaurant, Going in Blind, began their search for a hot, local celebrity to promote the wildly popular eatery, they couldn’t have found a better person than me.

Outgoing? Check.
Single? Check.
Open to finding love? Check.

I signed up immediately.

A hopeless romantic with an exceedingly demanding schedule, I've found it impossible to find the man of my dreams—so Going in Blind seems too good to be true! That’s until they start setting me up on dates—three very different, very attractive, very distinct blind dates—and only one thing is for certain . . .

I’m in big trouble.

"Good Morning Malibu,
I'm Noely Clark, and I have a choice to make.
The question is who will I choose; the suit, the rebel, or the jock."

I’m a freak, a misfit, an odd end.
Abandoned and unloved.
But my happiness is so close I can taste it.

Until he shows up.

Gorgeous, expensive, and all man.
Sad brown eyes and a brilliant smile.
And he wants me to go with him.

His intentions are hidden.
His motives are unclear.
Yet, I leave with him because there’s no happiness here.

What he promises feels too good to be true…
A castle. A fortune. And horses too.
It’s too easy.
Nothing in my life has ever been easy.

What’s the catch?
There’s always a catch.

My relationship with Hunter Delucia started backwards.

We met at a wedding--him sitting on the groom's side, me sitting on the bride's. Stealing glances at each other throughout the night, there was no denying an intense, mutual attraction.

I caught the bouquet; he caught the garter. Hunter held me tightly while we danced and suggested we explore the chemistry sparking between us. His blunt, dirty mouth should've turned me off. But for some crazy reason, it had the opposite effect on me.

We ended up back in my hotel room. The next morning, I headed home to New York leaving him behind in California with the wrong number.

I thought about him often, but after my last relationship, I'd sworn off of charming, cocky, gorgeous-as-sin men. A year later, Hunter and I met again at the birth of our friends' baby. Our attraction hadn't dulled one bit. After a whirlwind trip, he demanded a real phone number this time. So I left him with my mother's--she could scare away any man with her talks of babies and marriage--and flew back home.

I'd thought it was funny, until the following week when he rang the bell at Mom's house for Sunday night dinner. The crazy, gorgeous man had won over my mother and taken an eight-week assignment in my city. He proposed we spend that time screwing each other out of our systems.

Eight weeks of mind-blowing sex with no strings attached? What did I have to lose?

Nothing, I thought.
It's just sex, not love.
But you know what they say about the best laid plans...

All her life, Lexi Summer has dreamed of one thing: to become a mother. As the youngest of six, she’s accustomed to the chaos and camaraderie that comes with a big family, which is why she has been anxious to get a jump on this next phase in her life. She thought she had it all: the perfect house, husband, and future. Until one secret rips it all apart.

Nothing in Linkin Stone’s life has been easy. Raised by a single mom, working two jobs, and helping with his much younger twin brothers which keep him on his toes. He busts his butt to right the wrong of someone from his past and keep the ones he loves safe. He doesn’t need anyone or anything. But that all changes the moment he meets his sexy, feisty neighbor, Lexi.

When fates collide, two people on separate paths suddenly find themselves traveling the same road. Could an easy friendship turn into something more? Or in the end, will their decision kinda create one big mess?

*Though part of a series, this book can be read as a standalone. It is intended for those 18 and over due to graphic language, descriptive sex, and the world’s most inappropriate grandparents.

Wildcat by Max Monroe

Blurb:

Wildcat: a football formation in which the ball is snapped, not to the quarterback, but to another player lined up in the quarterback position.

I’m Quinn Bailey, quarterback for the New York Mavericks.
Sports analysts predicted I’d break records and take my team all the way.

But no one predicted this.

And just like the other team, I never saw it coming.

I am loving this new series from this author!!! We get all the same humor and heat as all the other books! The meeting of these two characters probably goes down as one of my favorite meets! It was funny and sweet...ah I just loved it! And from there the story just progressed and so did their relationship. I thought this was really well written and had great flow. I felt like I lost some of that fun banter that I really enjoyed in the middle of the story. But there was an interesting twist in the plot that isn't one we typically read about romance novels so that was refreshing. Overall, if you love humor and heat in your books, this is a great one and if you are familiar with this authors other books, you will not be disappointed in this one!

The Coaching Hours by Sara Ney • REVIEW BLITZ

THERE ARE NO DOUCHEBAGS IN THIS STORY. Well, there are, but they’re not who this story is about. This story is about me—the coach’s daughter. When I moved to Iowa to live with my dad, the university's take-no-prisoners wrestling coach, I thought transferring would be easy as pie—living with my father would be temporary, and he'd make sure his douchebag wrestlers left me alone. Wrong on both counts. ASSHOLES ALWAYS COME OUT OF THE WOODWORK WHEN THE STAKES ARE HIGH. A bet is placed, and I'm on the table. After one humiliating night and too much alcohol, I find the last nice guy on campus. And when he offers to rent me his spare bedroom, I go all in. It’s time for the nice guy to finish first. Midnight chats and spilling my problems turn to lingering touches. Lingering touches turn to more. And the ultimate good guy has the potential do more damage than any douchebags ever could.

This has to be one of my favorite book series! I love all the characters in every book, including this one. Compared to the other, this book took a much more sweeter approach to the story. The hero and heroine were absolutely adorable! It was very much sweet romance! They first develop this friendship and then that leads to more. There was a lot of chemistry and angst. You just really wanted them to be together. There was a nice twist at the end that made my jaw hit the floor. It wasn't something I was expecting to see in this series based on the previous books. There is just one thing I was really missing and that was the douchebaginess that we get in the previous books. Sure it was there with some of the secondary character, but that was one thing I loved with the first books that I wish we got more of in this one. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this book. I loved the story, loved the characters, it was well written and flowed smoothly! While it is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. All the characters in the series go to the same college and are familiar with each other, that is where the connection comes in. I highly recommend this one!

So my friend Nas recommended this series to me, and me just kept putting it of and putting it off. So I decided to do the Audible ones, and man was i hooked. From the first book till book 3 and when I received this ARC I was so excited i couldn't wait to start reading. And this author didn't disappoint at all.
We met Elliot in the previous books when he was Zeke's room mate. But he was the quiet guy that i think everyone over looked. So now he is living on his own and just trying to finish his semester so he can get to his master degree. And then he met Anabelle...
Anabelle is the wrestling coach's daughter and she is tired of living with her dad, so she is desperate to move out. After going to a party and getting so drunk that the guy she met once in the library takes her home. From there she and Elliot forms a unique friendship and that's how she moves in with him.
Both these characters felt an attraction from the moment they met, and now that they are living together the attraction just gets hotter. And one night one thing led to another, but Elliot isn't staying he has a plan and he is sticking to it. How will Anabelle handle Elliot moving on and will Elliot be able to forget about Anabelle.
What I loved about this book is that Elliot was so sweet, from the moment he met Anabelle he took care of her and as their friendship grew it's like was the shy one. Anabelle was sweet but also wasn't a push over I loved their friendship with each other. I missed the usual dark and broody and douchy guy but all in all a good read.

She perks up. “Wait, you’ve never had a back massage?”   “No?”   “Ever?”   “Nope.”   “Well, what the hell? How can I, in good conscience, lie here letting you rub my back when you’ve never had anyone rub yours?” She scoots over, pointing to the mattress. “Lie on your stomach, I’ll do you first.”   I wave my hands in front of me in protest. The last thing I need is her warm hands roaming my body. “No, no, you don’t have to. It’s not a big deal.”   “Are you crazy? Back massages are the best—like, better than an orgasm. You’re first, so lie down.”   “And you call me the bossy one?”   “Quit stalling and get on the bed.”   Obediently, I climb to the middle of my bed in nothing but a pair of gym shorts, legs hanging off the side. Next to me, the mattress dips, Anabelle on her knees, approaching my side.   A finger glides down my spine. “It will be easier for me to do this if I’m sitting on you. Hope that’s okay.”   “Is that the approved method?”   “No, but my arms will get tired if I have to lean over you the whole time.”   “Do whatever then, I don’t care.”   I stiffen when Anabelle swings one leg over my body, straddling my ass. Warm palms at my lower back.   “You’re so tense. Try to relax,” she coos, making it worse. “Tilt your head to the side, that’s it.”   I hear the lotion bottle snap open. Click closed. My roommate’s palms rubbing together, warming it up. “Sorry, I don’t have any actual massage oil. This will have to do.”   When her hands make contact with my back, I almost groan it feels so fucking good. Warm. Smooth. Pressure in all the right places, pushing gently into my muscles.   Slowly.   Slower still, caressing along my shoulders, thumbs and fingers working together to soothe the burning on my right side.   “Doesn’t this feel great?” Her soft voice cuts into the silence. “You’re loosening up. That’s good.”   I feel her leaning as her hands move up and down my spine until they stop, hovering at the base of my neck. Thumbs stroking the skin below my hairline, back and forth.   Kneading.   Her torso dips, hands maneuvering my arms, placing them at my sides. Palms slide up and down my biceps.   For several minutes, she rubs my arms and shoulders. Then she skims down my ribcage unhurriedly, in no rush, making little humming sounds inside her throat.   I know I’m not imagining the feather-light way her hands drift down my spine. I remain still, letting her touch me, basking in it.   Remain still when her lips kiss the tender spot of my shoulder where it meets my neck, nose nuzzling behind my ear, her breasts rubbing against my back and what the fuck was that all about? What does she think she’s doing, trying to drive me insane?
