Stars (Penmore Series #1) by Malorie Verdant ♥ COVER REVEAL

STARS
by Malorie Verdant
Coming APRIL 30th!

He changed my life.
With a smile, a flick of his wrist and a death-defying stunt.
He was six and I was five.
And now, thirteen years later, I am hopelessly in love.
There is only a slight problem.
He doesn’t know I exist.
He’s the star quarterback.
I’m a science nerd who hides in the shadows.
I don’t need anyone to tell me that college won't change anything.
I know he’s the star of this story.
And I belong in the audience.

Parker Elliot is going to Penmore State University miles away from home. She's leaving her small town because Penmore has a fantastic science department, because she needs to begin exploring the life she wants to lead and because Grayson Waters is the starting quarterback for the Penmore Herons.

Grayson Waters at first glance lives life to the fullest, but he is dealing with more than meets the eye. A con artist father in trouble with local mobsters, an illegitimate brother living close by, the pressure of leading his team to the championship game and a desire to pursue a career outside the football field. Decisions need to be made. For Gray, slipping into the shadows with a pretty and observant brunette might be just what he needs to finally make the right ones.

I first started reading romance when I was twelve.

My mother handed me her copy of Nora Robert’s Midnight Bayou and with resignation said, “Here you’ll love it, just skip the sex scenes or at least tell me you did.”

She knew I was young and she hoped I didn’t understand the diverse innuendos, but she also saw early on that I was a hopeless romantic and had a joy and thirst for romance novels that not even she and her protective motherly instincts could stop.

HUNTER by Blaire Drake ♥ REVIEW/EXCERPT TOUR

RELEASE DAY – MARCH 28

Born into blood, I was a mafia princess. Raised in hiding, I was a Californian sweetheart.
The day my father sold my thirteen year old body to pay off a five year old debt was the day my mother stole me in the dead of night. She protected me as she was supposed to.
My father may have been the king, but my mother was the queen.
The mafia blood was hers.
That was ten years ago. Now… the devil was on the loose.
Carlo ‘Hunter’ Rosso was my father’s right hand man and the boy I’d loved since I could tie my own shoelaces. He was always the most ruthless and the most deadly of all the children.
He’d thought I was dead until the day his assignment was given: Kill Adriana and Alexandria Romano. Kill the princess, and definitely kill the queen.
What he didn’t know was that the queen was dead, and the princess had taken her throne.
Blood didn’t lie. It smeared, distorted, stained. But it didn’t lie.
My father was going to learn the hard way that the empire he’d stolen belonged to me.
And so did Carlo ‘Hunter’ Rosso.

Review by: Leeann

This book literally hits the ground running & continues to be fast paced almost all the way through. In the middle it slows down a bit, but then it picks up again &
continues all the way through to the end.
So Addy is a teenage mafia princess.. Who is on the run with her mother, the mafia queen. The only way to get their lives back is to kill her father.
Easier said than done.

Now Addy is an adult and has had a few assasination attempts against her, she has decided it is time to come up with a plan & get her life back.

Hunter was Addy’s best friend growing up, he is now her fathers top assasinator. He was sent to kill her. Now he finds he is helping her.
As with all good not well thought out plans, thisngs don’t quite work out how they expected. In fact things go from bad t worse, and then worse again and neither of them
Know if they will make oit out alive.

There isn’t a lot of humour on this book. It is more on the dark side. There is lots of sexy & lots of action packed drama. These are 2 young people who essetially are victims of circumstance.
They are also young and in love and we all know when you are fighting for your life, this is not always a great combination. During their journey they each dicover a lot about themselves
and by the end you can see how this had made them not only stronger individuals, but also a stronger couple. Although this is a work of fiction, I know most authors that write this genre tend to
do quite a bit of research into the workings of the mafia & it is really scary that they will not hesitate to kill their own blood if it is deemed necessary.

As Addy & Hunter are both young they have a lot of growing up to do & a very short time in which to do it. The authors writing allowed them to develop at an age appropriate rate which is great. You
didn’t get to the end and suddenly have them behaving like 50 year olds.  I really liked that. I also liked that although they found themselves in violent situations, they always managed to maintain a level
of common sense & keep their wits about them.

If you have some time up your sleeve & enyou reading books that are a bit on the darker side but not too over the top that you don’t know if you want to finish then you will enjoy this one.
It is fast paced, has shades of dark and light in is a gerally good entertaining story, then I recommend you one click it & get reading!!

Review by: Tracy

Adriana was the princess of a mafia family. 10 years ago in the middle of the night her and her mother went on the run from her father. The man who wanted to sell the body of his own daughter. Leaving behind Carlo, the man she loved and her father’s right hand man. Now 10 years later, and her mother dead, she became the one person she wanted to be. The queen. With her father ordering her death, he will realize who actually rules the family. And who will control Carlo the “Hunter”.

I have gone back and forth on this review. While I did like the story I found that some parts were a little slow moving. I am not one for mafia stories, half the time I think they depict the wrong side of the mob. But this one was different for me since it was more about the female line within the family. I am a sucker for a bad ass female who takes what she wants, and in this case that happened to be a very sexy mafia man. So I suppose it was a win win for me!

EXCERPT:
Staying, are you? Figure it's easier to kill me in my sleep?”
Once again, he rubbed his hand across his face. He said nothing.
“Trying to work out whose life is worth more, right? Mine is probably worth a lifetime of comfort for you. Kill me and everyone's happy, right? My pathetic excuse for a father gets to keep his empire and you're taken care of for life.”
He looked at me, and his expression was a little tortured. I was being harsh. I knew that. But I needed to be. It was easier to provoke him and be angry with him than give in to the horrible ache that had settled in my heart.
“Adriana...” Weak. The word was weak.
I wanted to ignore the indecision on his face, but I couldn't.
He was considering it.
He really was.
I scoffed quietly at him and grabbed the gun from the coffee table. His mask and gloves fell to the floor, but he made no move to pick them up. The safety was on the gun, and I held it out to him. “Here. Take it. I don't care, Hunter. I don't have much of a life here in hiding anyway.”
He didn't even look at the gun. His silvery gaze never left mine. I wished he would look away, because in that gaze, I saw the Hunter I knew. The boy who once ripped his favorite shirt to stem the bleeding when I fell and cut my leg, then proceeded to carry me home. The boy who offered to pee on my foot when I got stung by a jellyfish in Mexico on vacation when I was seven.
The boy I loved before I knew what love even was.
“You're weak, Hunter,” I whispered. Slowly, I turned the gun back to me and touched the barrel to my temple the way he did earlier. His jaw clenched when my thumb edged toward the safety, and when my finger moved to hook around the trigger, he moved.
He was like a lightning bolt. He came at me like a flash, snatched the gun from my hand, and dropped it on the sofa. It bounced but stayed on the seat, and then he turned on me with blazing eyes. “Don't,” he ground out, his arms tensing and looking even bigger. “Don't ever fucking put that to your head again.”
“Why? I was saving you the job.”
The words had barely left my lips when he pounced on me. It was deadly, the way his hands clasped my face and his mouth descended on mine. I staggered back into the wall, gasping at the ferocity of his movement. Shock paralyzed me as he kissed me harshly. His tongue ran along the seam of my mouth, and as I fisted the sides of his shirt, I bit his lower lip.
A low growl left his throat, but he didn't relent. He just kissed me harder. He kissed me until I was fucking spinning and could barely string two thoughts together. Until my whole body was alight with his touch and responding to his every movement.
He tasted like whiskey. The strong, rich taste that lingered on his lips was heady and only added to the intoxicating way he touched me.
And then... It hit me. He was touching me. Kissing me.
Twenty minutes ago, he could have killed me.

I really enjoyed this book! I love the characters! They had personality and they were well developed. We got to know a lot about them without the book dragging on. I thought the storyline was great! Bad boy bar owner meets rich girl in distress, and in the end they help each other. There was a lot of angst through out the story, will they, wont they. That always makes the story more interesting. This is a collaboration story between two authors and I think they did a fantastic job writing it. The story flowed nicely with a few surprises thought out. I am looking forward to reading the next!

Review by: Erin

This story was addictive. Samantha has had her whole life turned upside down. But instead of playing the poor pitiful me card, she has dusted herself off and she is determined to make something of her life. She wants to do this on her own and do something that she is passionate about, something to be proud of. Clay is a compassionate man who is always willing to help someone in need. He didn’t have the best start in life and he never turns anyone if he is able to help them. The relationship that develops between Samantha and Clay is powerful. Together they make magic. The author did an amazing job with these characters. They are both deep and complex, yet it is the simplest of things that are important to both of them. I loved this story and I am excited to see where the stories for Mason and Levi go.

I love this book!
Once again these two amazing authors has given us a book that'll heat you up and get your heart pumping.
Clay Kincaid thinks he's got everything figured out. He knows what he knows about himself and there ain't nothing gonna change it.
Until a blond haired, blue eyed sweet little cupcake knocks him back a step or two and makes him rethink everything.
Samantha is sweet and sexy. A little shy and a little innocent. She's sassy and she knows what she wants. And it isn't what her family expects from her.
And she captures the attention of one very hot bar owner like no woman ever has.
This book is sweet, hot and very sexy. But it also tells a story of a man who thinks he's gotten all he deserves out of life and a woman who's running toward everything she's ever wanted.
Dirty Sexy Saint is a quick read that will keep you turning pages late into the night.

Excerpt

Prologue

In moments like these, everything slowed. Salem always joked that it was life’s way of making sure you didn’t miss the turning points, the important bits. As if gravity sank heavier and heavier with the weight of the moment until the world was too heavy to turn and everyone held their breath.
It certainly felt like that now. My next action, my next word, would change all of our lives.
“Aria,” Clay’s deep voice reached my ears. “Whatever happens…I love you.” The usual assuredness and authority was gone. Instead, strain and hurt had crumpled up and shoved into his throat. Choose me. Save me. Love me.
Before him my life had felt like a stack of old movies; frames missing or out of order, muted crackling sound, flickering and shuttering away, unloved and unseen in an old unused cinema.
Then I found him. Or he found me.
He created a warm shield around me where I could be safe. He coaxed away all my layers and shed all my masks and his love soaked right into my skin, right into the very soul of me. He pulled out the fossil buried inside that had been my heart and breathed life into me.
How could I give up the man I loved? The one who loved me with a fierce and unwavering passion, the man who made me feel like I could defeat demons as long as he was by my side.
Winking in the threads of sunlight piercing through the solemn gray clouds, seed fluff twirled about me like swirling, dancing couples. Spinning around like Salem and I used to do in our backyard, hands clasped together tightly, turning round and round, eyes to the sky, our twin voices giggling and floating into the air like dandelions.
She had been my shield before Clay.
“I’m nothing without you, Aria,” Salem’s voice trembled, desperation leaking into the breaths between her words. Choose me. Need me. Love me.
How could I end her? I just got her back. For so long we shared almost everything, and she protected me. Her whole life had been about protecting me. Because she loved me that much.
How could I turn against her, toss her away like an old broken toy?
But I had to choose.
I could see us now, the three of us making a chain like when I was a kid, folding pieces of colored paper into rectangles, cutting out an arm, a leg, and half a head, and unfurling my new patterns in the light to reveal a line of paper dolls. Clay, Salem and I − we were all just paper dolls in a paper chain, me in the middle, each end pulling tighter and tighter until something had to tear.
Even now as I stare between Clay and Salem, trying to digest our impossible situation, Hope is still there, that terrible pixie, fluttering on my shoulder, whispering.
Maybe it doesn’t have to end this way?
Fuck you, Hope. Here’s the truth.
Nobody is coming.
No one will save us.
And someone isn’t going to make it out of this forest today.
“Choose,” my sister screamed. “It’s either him or me.”
My fingers tightened around my gun in a reflex. This was it. I either ended her. Or destroyed Clay.
I squeezed my eyelids shut for a moment, just for a moment of peace. Just for an instant I could shut out the inevitable, and in this blessed darkness I believed I could conceive a way that both could exist in my life. A way that I could choose Salem and Clay.
You can’t have both.
You tried.
You.
Can’t.
Have.
Both.
Choose now.
But how?
What do you do when someone puts a gun to your head? Clay’s words came back to me, echoing as loud in my mind as if he had just spoken them. You refuse to bend. You push back. You find another way. You take that gun off him and put it back in his face. But you do not give in.
Find another way…
I knew what I had to do. A kind of peace settled on my skin, as delicate as gossamer, as light as silk.
I opened my eyes to a world of bright light until my vision adjusted. The torn and pained faces of the two people I loved came into focus. The only two people I’ve shared air with while we slept, the same two people I’d crawl into Hell to be with, and the only two people I would die for. I forced the ghost of a smile forward.
And turned the gun on myself.
