Review by Heather

I have been intrigued by Gabby Reynolds since we first met her in LP Dover’s second chance series. As the little sister of an MMA fighter, Gabby has been around all of the guys and has a presence in the Gloves Off series (a spin-off of second chance). When we get glimpses of Gabby in A fighter’s Desire I knew she was a strong and fiercely loyal character but I did not realize how much so until I read Paxton’s Promise.
The last book (Ryley’s Revenge) leaves Gabby in debt to Pax for something and we know they have a bit of history. So Paxton’s Promise starts off right where Ryley’s book ended with Gabby having to live up to her end of the bargain. Gabby fights her feelings for Paxton because of who he used to associate with and what that person did to her brother, Matt. Pax is determined to use this opportunity to prove to Gabby that they are good together and to get her to give them a chance.
When they finally get together, someone is not happy with this development and goes to any lengths to try to break them apart and keep Gabby for themselves.  Will Paxton and Gabby be able to withstand the evil and danger that comes from Pax’s past?
Paxton’s Promise was a wild ride of many swoon worthy moments as well as nail biting suspense. I love how Leslie takes themes from the previous books and keeps the story going. We get to see where some of the characters are now as well as see a little bit of what is to come in the future with the next books.  I was really pleased to see who was willing to come to Gabby and Pax’s aide when they needed help. That got be even more excited for the next book.
The chemistry between Pax and Gabby is off the hook. The sexy times are so hot and the romantic parts had me sighing out loud.
If you want a book that will put you on a roller coaster ride of emotions then this book is for you. (Please note Gloves Off series should be read in order). I give this 5 fight for me stars!

EXCERPT
“So we meet again,” he said simply. For a moment, his sea green eyes flustered me like they did every time I saw him. This time, I couldn’t let that happen.
Throwing open the door, I rolled my eyes and ventured back into the living room. He was going to come in anyway, there was no reason to stop him. “It appears so,” I grumbled. “I was wishing you’d forget about me. I guess the hundred pennies I threw in that well didn’t work.”
The door shut and I could hear him chuckle. “Sorry, love. No wish is going to get you out of our agreement. I gave you a week of freedom, but now your time’s up. You’re not thinking of backing out are you?” Instead of sitting beside me on the couch, he sat in the chair across from me, his gaze boring straight into mine.
“No. I made a promise and I’m going to keep it. I always keep my promises.”
“And the same goes for me,” he murmured, voice smooth and deep. “Now, how ‘bout we get down to business?” My heart sped up at the thought and a small smirk splayed across his lips.
“Fine,” I answered, clearing my throat. “I’m sure it’s nothing I can’t handle.”
The deep chuckle in his chest rumbled all the way down to my clit. “Oh, we’ll see about that, sunshine. First, I need to know. What’s the status with you and the douchebag baseball player?”
I crossed my arms over my chest. “I don’t think that’s any of your business.”
“It is now, considering for the next month you’re going to be with me and me only. You’re going to have to get rid of him.”
My eyes went wide. “Are you serious? What am I supposed to tell him?”
Nonchalantly, he shrugged. “I don’t give a shit what you tell him, as long as he knows to stay away from you. If he so much as causes a problem, I’m going to extend the month.”
“Don’t you think this is a bit extreme? Wouldn’t a week suffice?”

His expression grew serious. “You obviously have no idea how far out I put my neck on the line for you. I think a month is being very generous.”

Excerpt #1

“You look stunning.” I step towards her, running my index finger down her bare side. “I don’t know how I’m going to make it through the evening without killing every man who looks at you.” That’s not a lie, I think, tracing the edge of her breast.
“You didn’t pick this, did you?” she asks.
I lift my eyes to meet hers and shake my head.
“I can change.”

“No. You look...” I shake my head, trying to think of a way to describe her. “You look absolutely beautiful.”

4 * ANGSTY * STUBBORN * DEBUT *

Ok, I absolutely adore NA reads, I love the angst, I love the friendships, the building romance etc. This book, after seeing all the hype I was so excited and my grabby hands needed it....PRONTO!

This book has a fantastic plot, it is written beautifully and delivered really well. However, the characters... I felt a lot of dislike to Ethan and seriously wanted to punch him repeatedly in the junk when he was being a douchehole! Cassie, her character became quite annoying down to her being so freaking stubborn, but I hope to see good character development for the next book. This story is sweet at times and I felt something for it, but I was not blown away.
The book jumps from past to present in almost every alternate chapter, and the timespan of this book is three years. So in those three years I would have liked to see character maturity, especially from Cassie. It became repetitive at times but I continued with it.

I am a sucker for cliffhangers, I LIVE FOR THOSE BITCHES! However for me, this CLIFFY was A RIGHT KICK TO THE LADY PARTS! It was very abrupt and I could have sworn I was missing some pages....but NOPE!!! The book is the biggest tease in the history of EVER IN THE UNIVERSE!!!!!

I loved the writing, that is the reason I have rated this a four star. It had a LOT of potential, I will be reading #2 when it comes out because I felt a little something for this book, but those characters need to sort out their shit, I also feel like it needs to be less choppy!

Don't waste your love on somebody, who doesn't value it.” BEST quote ever from Shakespeare that I can use to describe this book.  This was an emotional book from the start. There was so much wrapped up in the characters that you couldn’t help but feel for them. I enjoyed the flash backs and thought Leisa  did a flawless job weaving the past and present together seamlessly.

Holt and Cassie were beautifully cast. Him the adorable loner that was just dying to feel but too scared to admit it and her the soft beauty that worked tirelessly to prove herself and win him over. The angst and tension was amazing in this book! I loved watching the inner fight between total attraction and fear of letting go. “Let yourself love me back”…this fantastic line from Holt had me believing in them and their fight to not succumb to “Romeo and Juliet’s” fateful outcome as well.

I give this book  3.5 stars. I really enjoyed the book. The whole thing from start to nearly finished had me reading and wanting more. I thought the plot was wonderful and Leisa was able to capture my love of the arts and Shakespeare with ease. I had a very hard time with the ending tho. It really left me hanging and wanting more NOW!

Undeniable sparks between Cassie Taylor and Ethan Holt when they first meet in acting school. She was the people pleasing, good girl actress and he was the hot bad boy actor around campus. Chosen to play the lead role in Romeo and Juliet makes for an interesting chemistry on and off the stage.

The first book gives us an inside look of the couple’s past and present encounters and reactions to each other whenever they are in the same room and/or when they are apart from reach other. Showing a visual overview on they interactions with one another when they are pick to play lead roles opposite of each other in school and again in their acting career.

Cassie and Ethan’s drama had moments when it hooked me into their world and moments where it dragged on. Sexual tension was a given but because of the hesitation on “Romeo” part afraid to be with someone more just made the story much more frustrating (but what love story is ever easy?). The jaw dropper for me was when I found out when he left! After everything….WTF?!? Are you serious?!? It is no wonder “Juliet” is not sure whether to give him another chance after all the things she did to show how much she was into him.

This 3.5 stars book will either leave you loving the couple with all their baggage or hate them from all angst and because of that makes this story one to check out!

Some loves never let you go…
Cassie swore she’d never forgive Ethan for breaking her heart when they were in acting school years ago. He was her one great love, and when he refused to love her back, a part of her died forever…or so she thought. Now she and Ethan are sharing a Broadway stage, and he’s determined to win her back. Finally he’s able to say all the things she needed to hear years ago…but can she believe him? Has he really changed, and what makes this time different from all his other broken promises?
The answer lies somewhere in the past, and now the truth will come to light. Will Cassie rediscover what it’s like to be trusting and open again—the way she was before Ethan? Or is it too late for these star-crossed lovers?

Don’t miss this mesmerizing final chapter in the Bad Romeo duet, the unforgettable love story that captured the hearts of over two million fans online.

About the Author:
Writing has always been a passion for Leisa, and even though she originally intended to be an actress, it wasn’t long into her time at drama school that she began writing plays.
Those plays were bad. Very bad. Well, her friends thought they were good, but that’s because they were always cast in them and any opportunity to be on stage was met with an obnoxious amount of enthusiasm.
Since then, she’s honed her craft, and several of her plays have been produced and toured
throughout Australia.
These days, playwriting has given way to fiction writing, and Leisa’s debut novel, BAD ROMEO, will be available in a worldwide release through Macmillan Publishing in December 2014.
Leisa lives in Australia with her husband, two little boys, three cats, and a kangaroo named Howard.
(Howard may or may not be her imaginary marsupial friend. Everyone should have one.)
