Forever Sheltered by Deanna Roy ~ BOOK BLITZ

Forever Sheltered by Deanna Roy

(The Forever Series #3)
Publication date: July 23rd 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Synopsis

Tina would rather sew up her girl parts with dental floss than go on a second date with a man. She’s been dumped enough to know not to get attached.

But when Dr. Darion Marks comes into her art therapy room to ask a favor for a special patient, Tina recognizes the haunted look he buries beneath his stoic professionalism. So rather than be forced to ditch the handsome doctor after a single night, she decides not to date him at all.

So how exactly DO they end up half-naked in Surgical Suite B?

Dr. Darion has a lot to hide. His baby sister is the only family he has left, and he’s not leaving her treatment to some incompetent hack.

But now he’s breaking every hospital rule imaginable. He lied about his sister so he can manage her care, and now he’s banging the art therapy teacher between patient rounds like a fraternity boy at a keg party.

Nobody believes this can end well, not Tina’s friend Corabelle, who is overcoming a tragic history much like Tina’s, or even pink-haired Jenny, who thinks sex with strangers is good for your metabolism.

But Dr. Darion and Tina have one thing going for them – a fierce passion for each other that just might obliterate all their doubts, and solve all their problems.

Forever Sheltered includes many favorite characters from Forever Innocent and Forever Loved, as well as the much-anticipated wedding of Gavin and Corabelle.

It is a standalone HEA that does not require reading any other parts of the Forever series.

Excerpt

The voice that came from the door was like an icy blast. “Do you have any more personal questions that are completely out of line for your relationship with my patient?”
I whipped around. Dr. Darion stood in the door, glowering like a gargoyle.
“I—I was just asking about a song Cynthia performed for me yesterday.”
His eyes narrowed. I wondered what I possibly saw in him before, because now he was clearly the biggest jerk in the universe.
He snatched my arm and dragged me from the room.
I tried to wrench free as he moved us down the hall. “What is going ON with you?” I asked.
“Hush,” he said.
We turned down a narrow corridor, and he buzzed us through a door with his ID. I had never been in this part of the hospital and tried to figure out where we were. The back side of ICU, maybe.
He shouldered open a door marked Surgical Suite B. The room was dim and empty. Boxes were stacked along one wall, and it had an unused smell to it, stuffy and antiseptic. A pair of gurneys were pushed together next to a line of cabinets.
“What is this about?” I asked, jerking my arm out of his grasp.
“Why were you in Cynthia’s room asking questions?”
“Why are you dragging me through the hospital like a lunatic?”
We were only inches apart, me defiantly on my toes to try to eliminate the advantage of his height.
“You have no business questioning my patients or their family.”
Oh, I wanted to punch him. My hand curled into a fist. “You are an awful man, Darion Marks.”
His Adam’s apple bobbed up, then down, like he had swallowed something nasty. “I’m sorry I dragged you down here,” he said.
I shoved at his chest. “Sorry? You just embarrassed the hell out of me! No telling who saw that.”
I pushed him again. I was really in a fury. “Are you TRYING to get me fired?”
The contact between us sparked, like a match being lit. I forgot why I was mad. He was so freaking close. He wore cologne, just a hint of it. He smelled like heaven. My heart sped up. Crap.
I tried to think how to get out of this. I needed to just walk away. We were alone in a dark room.
Shoot. I could already tell my body was getting ahead of my head. It was calculating distance. Seeing how far I could push this man. How close I could get.
Remembering how long it had been since my last tryst with anybody.
I would have to do the one-and-done with Dr. Darion after all.
I leaned in, just to see what he would do.

Excerpt

When he takes his hand off my ass, I didn’t even realize it was still there. Cocking his head back and sideways, he lifts his hand and brings it to my face, gently caressing my cheeks. I don’t trust him.
“Such a good girl,” he says. “If you listen, I will reward you.”
“How?” My voice is still croaky.
“You’ll see …” X holds out his hand and waits for me to take it. He helps me step out of the tub, but I still manage to slip on the stone floor. He catches me with his free hand and presses me close to his chest. I gasp, because I’m surprised he actually cared to not let me fall. That, and the fact that his cock is poking me. His hands are tightly wrapped around my body, and he buries his head in the nook of my neck. He smells me and then groans. “I remember this …”
His words creep me out.
Suddenly, his lips are on my neck. It’s soft and warm, and so not what I’m used to. He leaves random kisses all over my skin, dragging his lips up to my earlobe. Shivers run through my body. Then he stops, hovering close to my ear. “So eager. So feisty. So yearning for the pain … You’re a masochist, Jay.”
“A what?”
“You enjoy my hand giving your ass a royal spanking.”
“What?” I snarl, freezing, because I can feel his hands on my skin, feeling me up.
“You can deny it, but it won’t change a thing. You and I both know what you are.” His whispers make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up straight. “You punish yourself when no one else is around to do it for you.”
I’m shocked. I don’t know what to say. I can’t even bring out a few words. I’m totally and utterly flabbergasted.
And maybe a little ashamed, too.
He groans again, nipping my ear, biting it. “I’ll be your provider. I’ll give you pain as long as you give me your tears. Be wicked with me, Jay. Learn to love the monster that lurks inside you too. I know you’ve seen it. I can tell from your quivering lips and begging eyes. You need a man to control you, to temper your flame, and to make you feel alive.” He sucks on his lip, and it sounds like a hiss, making my skin crawl. Oddly enough, my clit is still throbbing, too. “Blood, Jay. I want your blood. I’ll strike you as long and as hard as needed until it turns your skin ruby and makes you so wet you’ll spread your legs willingly. My belt gives us both satisfaction. You’ll get the burning sensation of leather, I’ll get to draw your blood. But know this, little bird: you’ll never be free of me. Don’t think you were ever free to begin with, I’ve always been there, in the shadows, lurking, waiting to take my shot. Let me remind you again: I desire your blood, your tears, and your fear. I want it all. You can choose how. I’ll give you that choice. My belt or your head. So you decide, which one do you want?”
My body is giving up the fight as I shake profusely in his arms. It’s too much. I don’t want to die, but if that’s the only choice I have … would I pick a life of pain?
But then I realize I already made that choice long ago. I’ve been on my own ever since I left the hospital that day. The first day I remember after a huge blur. I’ve been wandering the streets like a lost lamb. I chose to trust the people, Hannah and Don, who betrayed me in the end. Always let people use me. Always abused myself. Pain is etched into my soul. He’s right: I’ve never been free. Not from him, nor from myself. I’m my own monster, and now I’ve found an equal.
“I want to live,” I whisper into the void.
I can feel him smile against my skin. “You’ll make a perfect pet.”

BITTERSWEET REVENGE By J.L. Beck ~ Release Day Blitz

Bittersweet Revenge
by J.L. Beck
Series: Bittersweet, #1
Genre: Mature YA/New Adult - Novella
Publish Date: July 26, 2014

I’m a slut. Or at least that’s what everyone calls me. I guess that’s what you get when everyone thinks you've slept with the whole football team and then some.

My junior year of high school I gave my heart to Corey Winchester. He was handsome, cocky, and a pure gentlemen. Then everything changed in an instant. When I found out he was spreading malicious rumors about me, after I refused to sleep with him I was utterly surprised. To add to it, he broke up with me in front of the whole school. I essentially became the laughing stock of the town. People that I once called my friends became my enemies. Finding a way to ruin my life one day at a time.

Now the shitty part is I should have known a pretty boy like him was too good to be true. After ruining my reputation and life I did everything I could to stay under the radar, but it just wasn't enough. I slowly learned that all the torment, and hate was all for one thing. Revenge. That’s what Corey wanted, and why I didn't know. Then Rex Winchester came along. Corey’s cousin, and someone I knew I shouldn't be getting close with. A whole six feet of hotness, a smile that melted the panties off of every girl in a fifty mile radius, and a heart of gold. He could have anyone he wanted, so why he chose me Corey’s ex, the bullied, slutty girl was beyond me. All I knew was that I wanted him. I wanted him more than anything. The problem was, I couldn't tell if Rex, was just like Corey or if his intentions were as innocent as he was making them out to be.

My names Jenna Haines, and this is the story of how the one thing I wanted.. turned out to be the one thing that would hurt me the most. What happens when the one thing you least expect to happen, does? When all the lies and secrets come out. Well you're about find out.

Our eyes met from across the table. His looking as if they were asking for more, answers. He looked curious, and I wasn’t looking for curious. “Yeah mine too. Let’s go get a shake. FFA still does that shake Friday thing right?” I asked. I could really go for a mint chocolate-chip shake right about now. We got up to dump our trays, but before I could move out of my seat an arm snaked around my shoulder pushing me back down. I turned all but growling as I realized the arm belonged to the mongrel Corey. “Remove your fucking arm from my body before I show you what it’s like to have your balls stuffed up your ass.” He smiled, a big toothy grin, dimples and all that use to have me melting in his hands, now I just wanted to puke all over his face. Distress singles were going off like crazy in my head.

“Tsk, tsk, is that anyway to talk to me Jenna?” He said his arm very much still around me. I was about to lose my shit. “Move on asshole, no one cares what you have to say.” Mimi yelled.

He tilted his head at her as if trying to find her one weakness. The best thing about Mimi was anything that he said to her she would brush off. I however wouldn't.

“Hmm. Why don’t you stop worrying about me, and put your tits back in your shirt. That is unless you're joining the slut club that Jenna here is the president of?” Mimi smiled, leaning across the table, giving him a huge eyeful of her cleavage. “I think your lost buddy, president of the slut club is Marie Jameson.” She replied in a sultry tone pointing to the end of the table.

“But in case you can’t find her let me draw you a map with some crayons, you go past leave us the fuck alone, turn right at fuck off, and oh look you're in slut country.” His eyes dilated, and I couldn’t hold my laughter in. Mimi always knew how to tell someone to fuck off.

I pushed his arm off of me, catching a smirk on Rex’s face at the end of the table, knowing he had probably heard the whole conversation.

Corey gazed at me, following my line of vision to Rex. As soon as I seen I was caught I dropped my eyes down to my tray. The last thing I needed was Corey having yet another thing to use against me. His face leaned into mine, I could feel his hot breath on my cheek. The last time we were in a position like this was the very last time he kissed me. It was the last time, he ever treated me like anything other than a door mat.

“I won't warn you off, because you know what I’m capable of Jenna. But if you think you have a chance with Rex you’re more than fucking wrong. Don’t cross me, you know as much as I do you don’t fit in with that crowd. I mean look at us, how well did that work out. If you think I make your life hard now, lets just say it can get ten times harder.” He whispered in my ear, wrapping a small strand of my hair around his finger before standing.

“Also you might want to start fighting your own battles. Oh and nice tits Mimi.” He said loudly well smirking. My heart was racing, as he walked away. An encounter like that never happened before. School had been in session only a week and I knew that he would more than live up to his word on hurting me.

“What a fucking douche-asshat-fucking-cumsucker” Mimi said under her breath as he walked away. I couldn't agree more, but I wasn't going to keep retaliating against him. One he wasn't worth it really, and two I would be out of here in nine short months. If I could just manage to get through it.

Mimi reached across the table and grabbed my hand, pushing me from my thoughts. “Don’t let his false threats get to you. He will get what’s coming to him, he will pay for what he’s done to you. Maybe not today, or tomorrow but someday. I swear to it Jenna.” She said sincerely.

“You know I love you right. If I was into girls I would totally choose you as my girlfriend. No homo of course.” She giggled. “Sorry love, but I’m very much into dick. Like a lot.” I laughed back. This was true friendship right here. Now to get through the rest of the day without another encounter from either of the Winchester boys.

Goodbye to You by AJ Matthews - BLOG TOUR & GIVEAWAY

Goodbye To You
Release Date: 07/01/14
Swoon Romance
New Adult

Summary from Goodreads:
Europe? Nope. Mexico? Nope. Key West?

Not me. This summer, I'm playing nursemaid to my sister. Yeah, I know. Relatively good looking twenty-two-year-olds don't spend the summer bedside in the cancer ward, but that's the plan - until my sister threatens me with bodily harm unless I get on the plane.

That's when I met him. He likes me. Really likes me. But more than that, he loves my boobs -- like can't get enough. I have no idea how to tell him that they'll be gone soon. Courtesy of a preventative double mastectomy. Yep. That's what testing positive for the breast cancer gene mutation will do to a girl.

But don't feel sorry for me. I'm enjoying him, holding on until the last possible minute, while I muster up the strength to tell him, and watch him walk away.

The Best Books Ever! (Or, I Had to Pick Five and These are the Ones That Came to Mind)
Being limited to choosing five favorite books is like picking which of my children are my favorites. Wait, that’s not right, because I only have three kids so I don’t have to make a “top five favorite kids” list. Still, picking five is really difficult, because I read across so many genres that I could make a “top five” list for just about any type of book I’ve read. Instead, I’m going to pick a recent read, or a memorable one, from five distinct types of fiction.
Historical Romance
Though my favorite historical romance writer is, bar none, Amanda Quick, my choice here is from an author I just discovered last year.
THE MADNESS OF LORD IAN MACKENZIE
by Jennifer Ashley
I’ve developed an interest in Scottish historicals set in the Victorian era, and that’s how I discovered this book. I was fascinated by the blurb, which described the hero thus: “The youngest brother, Ian, known as the Mad Mackenzie, spent most of his young life in an asylum, and everyone agrees he is decidedly odd. He's also hard and handsome and has a penchant for Ming pottery and beautiful women.”
Penchant for the pottery? More like an obsession, y’all, the level of which I’d seen from someone in my own life over a singular thing for years. Ian Mackenzie spent time in a madhouse, but not because he’s mentally ill in the traditional sense, the way we understand it now, but because he has a…you know what, I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who may be interested in reading this.  But I will say that Ms. Ashley handles the subject with a delicate hand. Though Ian’s differences are well-detailed, he’s never made to seem less in the eyes of his family or the woman who loves him, even if he doesn’t believe the same of himself. Give this one a try! It’s passionate, heartbreaking, and uplifting, especially if you have an exceptional someone in your life who sees the world in a different way.
Fantasy
I confess I don’t read much fantasy anymore, but this book still stands out to me. I recently found all six of the books in this series (technically two trilogies, but with the same protagonist in all of them) at a used bookstore and added them back to my collection after they went missing in a move years ago.
THE RUBY KNIGHT
by David Eddings
This is the second book in Eddings’ ELINIUM series, and some reviewers feel it suffers from “middle child syndrome,” but I loved it. The queen of Elinia has been poisoned, and knight Sparhawk sets out on a rollicking quest to find the antidote. I enjoyed the first book of the series, but this one had me hooked. The world-building was spectacular, the character development spot-on, and the action pulse-pounding. I actually called in sick to work to finish this book. If fantasy is your thing, or if you want to give it a try, start with THE DIAMOND THRONE, and then quickly move on to this one.
Mystery
…AND THEN THERE WERE NONE
by Agatha Christie
There’s no Miss Marple or Poirot here, but this is my favorite Christie book. Ten people are lured to a remote island, and proceed to die-or more accurately, are murdered-in methods that mirror a children’s rhyme, in an attempt to administer justice for past wrongs committed by each of the visitors. It’s an interesting look at the idea of justice, or what may be the machinations of a madman. The plot’s been used repeatedly throughout the history of literature, and now television and film, because it’s so darn fascinating. Who do you trust? You know you’re not the murderer, but who then? And what do you? This device was used a few years ago on the mini-series HARPER’S ISLAND to great effect. If you’re familiar with this device but haven’t read Christie’s take on it, read it now.
Literary Fiction
HOUSEKEEPING
Marilynne Robinson
I’ve labeled this “literary” because it’s one of those books I never would have picked up had it not been required reading for a college course in contemporary women’s literature. It’s a challenging read, for sure. The material is tough, with loss and emotional coldness and mental illness at the forefront of the story. The narrator is not the most sympathetic, which is a difficult aspect of the story, since Ruthie is a child, and one who has experienced her fair share of death in her limited time in the world. Though Ruthie and her sister Lucille were raised by the same people, and have the same biological parents, their desires in life stand in stark contrast. The return of their eccentric aunt Sylvie, a transient, drives the story and redefines, at least for me, what family is, and that home is not necessarily how we have traditionally viewed it.
New Adult
FAKING IT
Cora Carmack
I’ve read lots of New Adult, since I realized this was a thing, and then I started writing them. There are so many good books, but this is my favorite because CADE. I love nice guys, and Cade is an amazingly sweet one. But he’s passionate, too, about the theater and his work and about Max. She’s been through some heavy stuff and has been working through it with varying levels of success. I adore that Cora (can I call her by her first name? We met briefly last year and the most prized possession in my office is a poster autographed by her at an RWA book signing) turned the traditional good girl/bad boy trope on its head, and instead had a tough-girl, tattooed rocker chick and the “Golden Boy” nice guy. And it gave me so many feels. All the feels. FAKING IT is the second book in the LOSING IT series, but can be read as a stand-alone. Excuse me while I go hug my Kindle and start re-reading this book...
What are your favorite books? Do they tend to be all of one type, or across different genres? Do you have as much trouble as I do deciding? Do you wish you didn’t need to sleep so you could read all the things and keep adding to your favorites shelf?
About the Author
I wrote my first book at six. A retelling of The Three Little Pigs, illustrated by my grandmother, the book was never picked up and was self-published instead, glued to cardboard with a cover fashioned from wallpaper scraps.
Today, I write stories featuring nice guys (or nice guys in-the-making) in between my other jobs writing research reports for a commercial real estate company, refereeing two young daughters, navigating the teen waters with a too-cute-for-his-own-good son, spoiling a neurotic cat, and making my darling, patient husband shake his head. I'm also an autism mom, chocolate enthusiast, sports-watcher, nacho-eater, and beer-drinker.

A Maryland native, I live in North Carolina now, but dreams of the beach fuel my fantasties, and my characters can often be found strolling in the sand or sailing along a coast.

Unwritten by Chelsea M. Cameron - BLOG TOUR, REVIEW & GIVEAWAY

UnWritten by Chelsea M. Cameron
July 2014

BOOK SUMMARY:

Children's librarian by day. Romance novelist by night.
British single father.
Someone else is writing this love story...
Blair Walton isn't your average curvaceous tattooed children's librarian. She's also one half of bestselling romance author, Scarlet Rose. Along with her BFF Raine, she spends her nights writing books so steamy, she's afraid they would shock her Southern conservative grandmother to death . . . if she knew about them. That's why she and Raine write in secret.
On deadline for their latest book and out of ideas, Raine suggests (demands) that Blair find a guy and "do some research". Declan Bennet has all the qualifications: He's British, looks fabulous in a suit, has glorious blue eyes and gets bonus points for being an amazing single dad to his adorable son, Drake. But what starts out as a research project quickly turns into something much more. And Blair's not the only one with secrets.

Blair along with her best friend, Raine, make up Scarlet Rose. They're the duo behind the amazingly steamy romance novels that are big right now. Blair is also a children's librarian. Not the most exciting job when you are looking for inspiration for your books. Enter Declan Bennet, the father of one of the boys who comes to story time. With his sexy, British accent and the fact that he can wear a suit like his body was made for it, she knows that he could be just what she needs. She doesn't have a choice, regardless, as Raine demands that she ask him out.
Date one turns in to date five which turns in to them being together for a few months now. Well, together is used very loosely. Declan is afraid to put a title on anything as he's been burnt in the past. Little does he or Blair realize that when it comes to the heart, you can't stop it from falling in love. But will the secrets that they both harbor prevent them from admitting these feelings?

I feel like I've been on a perpetual home run lately with books. So many have been 4-5 star reads, and Unwritten was no different. Chelsea Cameron did a wonderful job. She draws you in from the very beginning. You fall in love with the dynamic duo that is Scarlet Rose. They relationship that Blair and Raine have is one that most people wish they had. Enter Drake, Declan's adorable, suit wearing son. He is such a little man, especially since he talks like his British father. Nothing cuter. He and Declan make a pair that can't be resisted.
There were so many aspects of this book that I loved. I wasn't able to put it down. I found myself staying up just a little later after the kids went to bed to get in some extra reading time. I know this will be one that I'll be able to pick up time and time again.
Review by Tatia
4.5 Stars

I agree with everything that Tatia said.  The author did a very good job with this book.  It has been one of the most entertaining books I have read in a while.  The book length was perfect and the story flowed seamlessly throughout.  The only thing I wasn't happy with was the ending - don't worry it's not a cliffhanger or anything bad - I just envisioned something different.
The author did a great job portraying the real life of an author and gave insight to the writing industry.  The daily interactions of writing duo of Scarlet Rose were hilarious with each of their characters being very lovable and easily related to by a reader.  I really liked the fact that Blair isn't your typical female lead and made no qualms about the fact she doesn't fit within society's norms.  The Bennet men, Declan and Drake are gentlemen through and through; little Drake wrapped his fingers around my heart the first moment I gazed into those baby blue eyes.  You can't help but like Declan even though he is a bit gun shy where relationships are concerned.
So back to that ending - I connected with these characters so much that I was hoping for a cliffhanger so there would be another book.  Chelsea please tell me that Raine gets her own book.  I will be watching out for more books from this author!
